Default 89 car - 93 motor please help!

i bought a 93 civic vx vtec-e motor from a friend that did a swap. my car is a 89 civic lx with a d15b2 engine that is horribly dead. i put the d15z1 engine in my car and used my dpfi intake and my original distributor. the car will start but will not run unless u have foot on gas, but if i remove the #1 plug and leave it out the engine runs. as if the exhaust valves are stuck on the head. i am wondering if my d15b2 head will work on the d15z1 block. or if anyone know what i should do. thanks!

Maybe you have a wiring issue. Is the ecu flashing any codes? I assume you are using your dx ecu?
