Just midbass no tweeter? Boston Pro 6.5! I hate these threads!!! Go listen to them yourself and pick the ones that sound the best to you!
uhhh...if you hear em on the wall of an audio store..it's not the same..
and that doesn't mean they fit inside my teg w/out too much hacking.
not every store has focals, image dynamics, etc to demo

For the rear of the car I just made new holes in the plastic trim ring and put a foam linner between the speaker and the plastic. This so far makes no weird vibrations or sounds. For the front I used a 3/4" MDF trim ring and that works perfect. I know what you mean about every store not having each piece of equipment. Here is another idea...find stores that offer a return policy even if the speakers are installed and try out a couple sets at a time. I had MB Quarts in my car before but I hated the sound so after hearing most speaker brands my ears liked the tone of the Boston Pro's so I went with them.

Also I am running a component set front and rear but using the coax mount system for the tweeters. Sounds sweet
I love the new Polk DB's. About 160 bucks at circuit city and they rock. You can turn them up full blast with no distortion. If you want even better check out the older model Polk Momo's they are about 250.

I'm highly confused as to what you want....do you want to take your existing comp set and swap out the mids, or do you want to supplement your current comp set by adding dedicated midbasses?
So which one is it....

Hands down I would go with MB Quarts their component sets are amazing good quality. I would get the 6.5's in the Premier Series. they are ruffly between 450-550 depending where you get it from

what are you doing for a sub/subs? That amp could power a whole, simple system nicely....

I just bought a set of these yesterday..
I used to be a DIEHARD MB Quart fan.. Used nothing but them on my last 2 vehices for mids/highs.. But, I must admit, I preferred the sound of the Boston's over the MB Premiers..

Good choice!!! Play around with the axis and coax mounting switch along with the db settings for the tweeters.

There aren't many high quality component sets that'll fit your doors without some modification. Either trim rings that bring the speakers too far our to cutting the door (metal) panels open a little to fit the baskets.
I have the MB PSD 216 set. I have the tweeters at -9db and bass on the head unit turned almost all the way up to make 'em sound good. The lower mid range is weak, though the upper mid is sooooo rich.
I'm considering trying some Diamond Audio HEX components to see if they'll get better midrange... or just some kickpanels and some 6's or 8's in them.
