Default What is the difference between the gsr and ls oil pump...i couldnt find one

i took apart both a ls and gsr oil pump to see if there was a visible difference.....i couldnt find one. The only thing that is could think of being different is the spring. But even that felt to be the same(not a real accurate measurement). Here are some pics......

the gsr oil pump is to the left

this is close up of an ls oil pump

this is gsr

cant remember from the top of my head what the flow differences were, but the springs have different pressures, the gsr one is stiffer, thus aloowing higher pressure

ok that is understandable but why are some people saying it flows more at the same pressure?

That will get my ls/vtec one step closer. I dont want to use my gsr oil pump because that will be running soon.

B18C and B18C5 are 71 liters/min, B18B's are 50 litres/min.
96-up all the same

the only difference is the spring

Are there any differences in the gear like # of teeths, size, shape, etc? Why do people sell aftermarket gears?

the stock oil pump gear is made out of a brittle metal
the aftermarket pieces are much more durable

yeah, all the parts #'s are the same, because all newer oil pumps are the same.
flow differences existed in the older obd1 ones

I agree this is a very interesting thread. If i knew all i needed to buy was a spring, i would be alot happier.

So early ls oil pumps just need the high psi spring that comes in pre-96 gsr's and all bseries after 96. Correct?
