RSX TypeS Bites the dust... Hahaha
Went to Acura today to get some parts. Noticed an RSX-S on one of the lift. First time that ive ever seen one. So I ask my buddy the tech what he thinks of it. He laughs and lowers the lift so I can see. What the ****?? There was no engine!! I asked him what happened. He tells me a customer took it for a test drive. Turned the corner and blew 2 cylinders. It was an older couple, and they didnt gun it or anything. They just turned as they left the dealership. From his experience they are having lots of problems...Any thoughts guys??
Why is that funny?
I'd bet you the guy missed a shift. A friend that works as a mechanic at a dealership said the same thing happened to some guy test driving an S2K. His fault though. Either that, or someone had taken the RSX out and beat the hell out of it before...
So what now? After that RSX gets an engine, would the dealership have to disclose what happened to it?? Or would they still sell it as new and not say anything???
i had one apart last week at my dealership. Had 880 miles and was pouring oil out of it. Turned out that from the factory the oil pan wasn't properly sealed. had to almost drop the entire subframe to get the oil pan out. Then we got to see the tiny tiny timing chain. Note to all you RSX owners keep that oil changed

they are made in Japan.
Well, a brand new engine design is bound to have a few teething problems, but i highly doubt honda made an inherently bad motor design (it seems quite impressive, numbers-wise). As for the mass public and a tight six-speed, Toyota learned the hard way that most people don't know how to friggin drive. Still, could be a fluke, every now and again an engine has some freak problem....my parents back in the 70s test drove a brand new Porsche 914, and the car literally exploded in a 15 foot fireball after about 10 minutes of regular driving (fortunately, my dad saw fire coming out of the engine and they both ran for it before she blew). Porsche later changed the Fuel delivery in the cars, because the pumps would get stuck at WOT and gas would start going everywhere. They didn't buy a porsche tho (got a mercedes instead..and now that i think about it, my dad has driven nothing but mercs since then...i kinda wish they'd bought a porsche
) Bizarre occurances are sure to happen with mass-produced cars, but a missed shift seems a likely culprit.

Most honda driver up until now have never seen a 6 speed manual. The only ones available are on NSX and S2000.

Type S are made in Russia. The Base Model is made in Afghanistan. The Type R model will be made in Africa near the Nile.
. Just so you know, I wasn't sure if it was being assembled in the U.S. or not. Russia, Afghanistan, and Africa were never on my list of possiblities

And what happened to the people who were driving it and overrevved the engine? Are they going to have to pay for it?

I for one believe that the dealership SHOULD disclose OPENLY (not in the fine print of the sales contract) if a car has received any bodywork or major mechanical service in between delivery to sale. But that is just me. Nobody would get ahead in America if we were all honest.
That's what happens when you put a boy in a man's position, not Honda's fault that these idiots don't know how to friggin drive stickshifts. Even if it had 8 gears, you don't go out and screw around with it. Doesn't take much to learn a tranny, any normal person should have it understood within a few hundred feet of driving. If I was the dealers I would restrict people from revving past 6000 rpms prior to any downshift on test drives, and have a salesperson sit in the passenger seat clearly explaining the downshift pattern. I know it takes the fun out of it, but how else do you keep idiots from blowing your engines ?.

The dealer must disclose what happend to the car.
At my dealer, there was a 2K ITR that was broken into and had the valve cover and camshafts stolen. They smashed the window and just opened the hood.
I aksed the service manager what will hapen and he said they will let the buyer know for sure but I imagine there will be a small discount on the sticker price.

When I worked at Honda, new cars were always getting fixed for small things and were never disclosed to customers. Now one employee that was there before me told me one time they dropped a new car from the carrier, fixed it and sold it as new.
There was another case where a lady bought an S2000 when they first came out. She waited like 4 months for it. The day she came to pick it up, a porter crashed it into the wall. Since the car was hers now and not the dealers, they didnt give her a new one and had that one fixed. She ddnt want the car, but all the paper work was done and she was stuck with it. If the porter would of crashed it 15 minutes earlier, Honda would of been stuck with it, but she just finished signing all the papers, and the S2000 was legaly hers.. Now that's screwed up...

This is the first round of cars off the assembly line. Of course there will be problems. It is to be expected. That is why you never buy the first year of any model....
I remember before I bought by GSR, I went looking around at a few Acura dealerships. Every GSR my brother and I drove we pushed to redline. Why should we care, we're just going for a test drive. We even had a few of the sales people push the car hard too. So whats the big deal?
I have my GSR now, and thats that. I haven't lost any sleep at all, just so you guys know.
