I'm moving to New Jersey in a couple of months and was wondering if tinting the front driver and passenger window is legal.

 

why would you want to tint the fron window in the first place?

 

according to the October 2003 issue of Sport Compact Car, it says that you CANNOT have tints in the front passenger windows.

 

i think it's legal to tint in EVERY state, but i know in a lot of them 35% is the lowest you can go, 27% is legal where i live

 

I live in California and it is illegal to have your fronts tinted. My sister lives in Texas and its legal. The reason I would tint it is that so people won't look in my car. I would rather have tint all the way around or no tint at all. What good would it do if you just have the rear and sides tinted?

Im from PA and it's illegal here. Im pretty sure its illegal in jersey too (right next door).

I agree it looks weird when its tinted all the way arond but the front. It's illegal for a good reason though. At night taking corners many times you cant see people when the are walking or whatever cause your headlights shine forward, not sideways. It would be even harder to see through turns with your front windows tinted. Its also illegal cause cops want to be able to see what you're doing inside your car.

 

I know for sure that it is legal in Texas and in Arizona.

actaully they only say its illegal cuz cops want to profile people tahts what my uncle ses.. but they dont call it profiling " its for there safety so when they pull you over they are aware of what your doing... but i always argue with a cop about my tint " dont you have anything else better to do but pull me over for my tint , dont you have serial killers robbers rapest and gang bangers and taggers to arrest?" but you notice how they try to protect there identity with them damm lights and flashlights in your eyes..

heres a story a true one infact...

i got pulled over nite time , i close my windows and move my rear view mirror. and he jsut happen to see my roll it up , he knocks and tell me to roll my window down but i open my moonroof instead , he ask" open your window " i said "NO" he ask why .. i said " your damm light is ******* blinding me" then he ended up having to talk through my moon roof AHAHAH .

to be honest im pushing my luck doing those kinna things but honestly even my ucle tells me .. if he gives a warning then you shoudl better do what he ses cuz all they have to say is " dont escalate the situation or you will force me to use different actions"

but also he told me dotn be afraid if you kno you didnt do anything wrong stick with it and file a complaint not to who the officers head sgt. but straight to the cheap of police.. and if you feel you have been harrast or racially profiled let it be known. here in san diego we have a new caster that woudl be more then happy to cover the racial profiling in the police department.. they will avoid all media if possible.. cuz once some1 steps up witht he media alot will start to come out behind doors and follow.. just a little tip

I work at a tinting shop in NJ (www.wedotint.com) and it is illegal to have ANY film on the front windows unless it's for medical purposes which you need a special card for. My friend that works with me has his s2000 blacked out in 10% 2 front windows and windshield and hasn't got a ticket yet. I also know 2 other people with every window tinted (4 door 95 accord and 97 audi a4) and havent got tickets. It is illegal but the only time you definitely have to remove it is for inspection.

 

Here in CA, S.F tons of my buddies have their front windows tinted. But the catch is its only 35% or 25%. Its smoked basically. Cops won't pull you over unless your tint is so dark that they suspect some illegal activites from you. I've seen lexus, mercedes, etc have front windows tinted and its smoked also. I would say IMO smoked tint looks the best and won't get you caught by the popos.

 

if you have your windows down a lot, you won't ever get caught
