ok my sister in law let me borrow her car while she is in japan..so i was driving it and it has a rough idle and then while in a drive through the other day i could smell a strong gas odor and then when i took off it kind of sputtered.so i think i know wats wrong with it but i alwways like to other opions oh and the car is a 91 honda civic station wagon.....
check your timing..if you have taken it to a shop in the past...try setting your timing back to stock...make sure the idle is in the correct range for your car...then re-check your timing again.
Some crappy shops fix rough idles by turning the idle control screw up or changing the timing...

check for loose vacuum lines, especially around the MAP sensor. a loose line at the MAP would cause a very rich mixture, poor idling and possible engine stalls, and poor acceleration.
