Default bad idle and strong smell of gas...

ok my sister in law let me borrow her car while she is in japan..so i was driving it and it has a rough idle and then while in a drive through the other day i could smell a strong gas odor and then when i took off it kind of sputtered.so i think i know wats wrong with it but i alwways like to other opions oh and the car is a 91 honda civic station wagon.....

Try resetting the ECU. See if that helps.

check your timing..if you have taken it to a shop in the past...try setting your timing back to stock...make sure the idle is in the correct range for your car...then re-check your timing again.

Some crappy shops fix rough idles by turning the idle control screw up or changing the timing...

sounds like your catilitic converter,allmost a 100% thats the prob,or your head gasket

no cars has never been in a shop so you all think it maybe the cat well today i was at a light and the idle just started bouncing so um any more clues before i pull the cat...

Check the spark plugs for a start. Unburnt gas could have been resulted from mis-firing or injectors squirting too much fuel.

check for loose vacuum lines, especially around the MAP sensor. a loose line at the MAP would cause a very rich mixture, poor idling and possible engine stalls, and poor acceleration.
