Problem with the gas pumps.
I've noticed a problem at certain filling stations. Sometimes the pump does not shut off automatically, causing fuel to spew out the filler neck when the tank is full.
The problem occurs most frequently at new stations or stations with new pumps.
Now ordinarily I would simply avoid stations where the problem occurs, however since I only use Chevron fuel and many of the older Chevrons in convenient locations are closing down, I am usually forced to fill up at one of the stations where this seems to happen most frequently.
My question is if this problem I'm running into is a result of malfunctioning emissions equipment, possibly something to do with the EVAP canister. If the problem is related to my car in some way I'd like to rectify it quickly.
If not, Chevron needs to know that their ******* pumps are defective.

I don't think it's your car. Must be the new pumps.
off-topic, but I've noticed that I get better gas mileage with new Shell gas. At least 25 miles more per tank.
Edit:

That might be what he meant

No. I always shut off the motor.
In fact, I almost got into a fight last year with some guy at a gas station who wouldn't shut his car off while he was fueling it.

I remember Yack fueling his hatchcrap with the motor running... and people freaking out.
It's gasoline, not acetelyne.
But, I suspect both the benefits gained from keeping the motor running (90-odd% of wear at start-up, don't you know?) and the risk of fire are both pretty small.
Anyway - more on topic... I find if I remove the nozzle about half-way through the fueling process and reinsert, that won't happen. If you're fueling on a warm, empty tank, the vapor in there causes it to pressurize as the fuel level rises - it's that pressure that causes the shutoff not to work and then spews gas.

Find a way to talk to the Manager. Tell them whats happening & if they don't fix it, I would seek some higher authority. It's a SERIOUS safety hazard!!! It's not your car. The "kick-off" on the pump is set incorrectly. If they don't fix it it's a violation of safety codes for all gas pumps.
