Anyone have experience with a turbo cam on a SOHC?
I was wondering if anyone with any D series SOHC engine w/turbo has changed out the cam to a turbo grind one? I was thinking about getting one and was wondering what kinda gains I could get out of it. Or if there are any write ups, a link would be great, thanks.
Do you happen to know what the numbers were with the stock cam? Also, was there any porting, that's some awesom numbers for 6psi!!
wow, Must have been tuned right. Any more details on the setup? engine/fuel managment, turbo specs, etc.. I bet i make 50 less hp at 6
VAFC hack with IMO to much ignition timing. I took a little out of the car (not mine) after the dyno, but it traps the same. That compressor loves 6 psi at that airflow level, its just an efficient setup. It was never dynoed on the stock cam, so who knows how it would have done. One thing is for sure, the car was a dog before the turbo. I think it ran 16.3 at 84mph or something before boost LOL.
EDIT: The head was ported, but not extensivley. It was more of a cleanup than anything. The whole motor was machined though. It had a few thousand breakin miles without the turbo too.

how much was pulled to start and how much after the dyno? effcient is right! cost effective too i'm sure. There are plenty of people with $2500 B-series swaps making the same or less power then this cheap baybee
It was somewhere around 30 degrees of total advance in boost from 3000rpms to redline give or take a few degrees with the dynoed setup. Then I modified a rom chip for the ecu and it supplied more advance while not in boost, and started retarding it slightly before 0 psi to eliminate the part throttle boost ping. It is around 25 degrees total advance at 6 psi, and will fall to 15-17 degrees total advance if the boost is increased to 10 or 11 psi. We had to run the car fairly rich to keep the motor fueled properly. Its also got a tubular exhaust manifold which i'm sure helps a lot.

The cam I'm looking at is the Crower Stage 2 cam, designed for Turbochargers, It has a bit more lift I believe but less duration. I wonder if I could gain 15whp with a cam swap.....
So you had the stock cam and the turbo, then just switched the cam out? What was the difference as far as power delivery and pull? Did it let you pull on cars that before would walk you?

did it make a noticeable difference?
