How to clean a stainless steel header?
My toda header looks pretty nast right now. I remember when i first got it, it was nice, bronze, and shiney. Now it looks like a 200 dollar header with blue and purple spots all over the place. Any way of removing these spots permanently? thanks.
if they are just blue spots then blue away will get em off, or any other good stainless header cleaner, like from motorcycle shops. If the spots actually look like mud or cludy tarnish and do not come off with mild cleaners, you will need to use 2000 grit emery paper and wet sand it off. Real easy, just do it with the header nice and cold and use plenty of water as you wet sand. when you are finished, rinse them, let them dry, then rub the primaries down with denatured alcohol to remove any oil from your hands. fire it up and the tubes will return to that nice gold color in about 10 minutes.
