Chirping third w/ little mods...
now i know that this is possible because i managed to do this repeatedly today, i dont understand how all of a sudden im chirping third gear, i mean i have been driving my GS-R for about a year and a half, but i never shirped third, and i tried too. now, i have 58K miles on it, oil changed about 1.5K miles ago and the same gasoline as always and im chirping third, what gives?
i mean i dont mind it at all but is it possible that my car is gettin still broken into??? i doubt it after 58K miles
the only thing i did was rotate the tires about two or three weeks ago and thats it
i mean...
¿?¿
?¿?
by the way, all i have is a custom, icebox-like CAI and an RS*R cat back, no suspension mods or anything else for the time being

I bet you have crappy tires or maybe too much air in the tires. Its gotta be the tires.
maybe ur driving improved? i was able to chirp 4th in my integra with 18's which were pretty damn heavy... but i also had a cluctch... other than that i just had bpu's
I have never been able to chirp third. and i haven't ben able to chrip even secound after i got my new Nitto Tires. I don't think its good for the car when it chirps, ibut i would say you might want to check the tire pressure or see if you need new tires.

hey... its up to u to believe it or not... doesnt matter to me... but like someone else said... "get a cm stage 4 and u can chirp 4th..." thats what i had... i have no reason to bs here... and plenty of people know that
i'm pretty sure you could chirp every gear if you were a bad enough driver...it all depends on where, how hard, and how much gas your giving it, when you engage the clutch.
actually quite simple on a stock gs-r. Or my stock CRX for that matter. It's not about power, or how fast you shift...it's about how cruddy your tires are and how hard you shift.
yeah, I think chirping 4th gear is BS. Maybe you farted by mistake
Even by doing clutch drops at 7K, I don't think you could get 4th or 5th to chirp, especially with 19's. Now if I had some 135/75/r13's, I know I could chrip 3rd with a fury. I've never, EVER heard my car chrip third, and my car is fast. I think my motor is just too loud to hear it because I can hear my friend's GSr with I/H/E chirp third eveytime as I beat him. -C

i can chirp 3rd to 4th...... at the track.....
dunno if i can do it on the street tho...
hehe.... i didn't have much power... just b16a with a few bolt ons in my integra..... running 16" rims......
however, pomona did have a VERY sticky track.....

Troll:
How is your new motor running? Did you get rid of your Type III's or did you put them back in? finished the turbo yet?? fill us in on the setup. -C

if u dont believe me its your choice... to be completely honest... it doesnt really matter to me
new motor is slow as f_ck..... hehe..... i mean i did lose like what? 40 Whp?? yea around there..... but the motor runs good..... but losin that much hp sucks..... so yea... i didnt' swap the jun stuff.... gonna sell all that crap in favor of my new turbo set up.......
basically bone stock motor for now til everything is running ok (then i have to smog).... well i do have an intake (not even cold air anymore, too lazy to put the extension on) and my catback.........
anyway..... feels very slow....... i can't wait to put the turbo on...... got everything but the piping and the oil lines/vacuum lines.......

also, just wondering, why didn't you just put the B18a back in (or get another one) if you were going boost? It would be faster no doubt. Good luck man, -C
i find it real easy to belive expecially if hes got a clutch i have an ACT 4 puk and i chirp 4th all the time on my 17's
Your tires obviously have worn from the last time you tried.
I find chirping 4th w/ 18s pretty hard to believe, though...

sold my original b18a when i swapped the b16a over 2 years ago....... and to find another one plus tranny AND ecu...... would be like 800-1000 bucks..... plus to find a b18a with low mileage (30-40k)...... well.... that's pretty much impossible......
new b16a/tranny/ecu (with all the extra stuff like alternator, starter blah blah blah) was $850.
after reselling some of the extra stuff that i already have (that probably wouldn't have came on the b18a) on the new motor ALONE (ecu, distributer, tb, intake manifold, alternator, etc)...... my new motor/tranny net cost = $300 bucks.....
i wanted to keep the block stock (for money purposes and plus i have no idea how to do a piston/ring job), so buying a b18a and building it or rebuilding it was out of the question.......
anyway, i'm only planning on boosting 5lbs........ 7 at most...... and at 5-7psi..... the b16a actually should make more power and be quicker.... b16a lacks torque rite??? that's what my turbo is for......

ok...back to the original subject....
Given you have a stock clutch, fairly decent tires at proper air pressure and just basic bolt ons... even with the stock steel wheels... the only way you could chirp 3rd in spirited driving is if you (finally) found your max torque RPM in your particular engine and shift there... many people drive their cars for thousands of miles and never actually know where the best shift point is ( unless you have a dyno chart or really know how to drive)
Most people race to the redline then shift (those people lose races and don't know why) If you can determine where your perfect shift point in your power band is, you will be able to chirp 3rd (slightly) which is prolly what you have discovered (congrats)
As far as chirping 4th..... with a turbo prolly, or if you have an Si tranny ...
.... Hell, I couldn't chirp fourth in my old RWD Firebird and that beast was putting 297 to the wheels.
Anyways.... congrats on discovering your perfect shift point bocian..... either that or you need to replace those bald *** tires...!!
