If you were me... You would pick..
I am looking at two different motors. Seems like I can get both for the same price.. So.. Here B16a2 motor or a LS-Vtec (B18b with a B16a2 head). Planning on running this for a while til I get some cash for Turbo. But for the mean Time I want some sort of power, but I don't want to worry about it much.

You may not want to listen to me but I think the B16a2 is the way to go since it's all stock and it can rev as far as you make the head withstand. You can't do that with the r/s of the ls block.
I can't understand why anybody would want to graft a ls block on to a sweet *** b16 head? It's just gross.

well it all really depends on the condition of the two motors also what kinda of HP the motors currently make to the wheels.
I personally repect ls/b20 vtec motors, but the r/s ratio bothers the **** out of me as in longterm care and REVablities.
in this case... B16a2 hands down!
But B16 vs B20... B20 hands down.
you'll also have to question what your plans are.

All the turbo B16's (greddy kits with huge FMICs @ 10psi) I know of that reside in 1999-2001 civics run high 14's. Lack of torque is a killer.

LS/Vtec y0!
more torque to snap your head back to the seat kinda...
LOL
But its all up to you... with the B16 you will have the stock reliability, with the Ls/vtec you lose some reliability, it all depends on who puts the motor together and how well they put it together... whoever does it make sure it gets done right
Good Luck and let us know how it all goes!

B16A2...LS/VTEC's are so easy to screw up, I wouldnt buy it unless I built it myself or it was professionally built...also what tranny is on the motor? LS trannies on LS/VTEC horribly rob them of performance

i ran 13flat with my LSvtec in my EG full interior dx at NHRA in oregon during August, brand new built LSvtec ( B18a1 block B16a2 head ) with CTR pistons and 2 layer head gasket ARP head studs, DC4-1 header, cold air, header out with heavy Duty ACT6puck ran on baby slicks 13flat. you will be more satisfied with the LSvtec make sure u get a P28 rechipp computer (11.5 compression ratio my motor is at )

greddy kit w/fmic on 10psi on a 99-00 si should put it in the high 13's

wtf kind of answer is that? how is a greddy kit weak... yes weak compared to a FULL race sc60... but not a weak MOD at all. don't post BS like this on honda-tech. what ever you post back it up with info.
I like what the other member said.... b20 then B16 then B18b.
we all want more topend power but it sucks to be driving around with only 105tq..... horsepower is what we all want to buy but torque is what we are riding.
on.

Hmmm.... No...
Many 96-00 Civic Ex's run high to mid 14's with Sohc/ turbo and lower PSI than that.
