Mini AEBS intake manifold review!
Whats up guys.. Since we have a big thread goin on about the AEBS intake mani I thought I would throw up a few pictures and my driving expirence with it. Granted I have a ls/vtec (jdm r pistons, ctr cams, AEBS intake mani) and I still havent ripped the engine yet (still breaking it in) i thought I'd just show what it looks like.
Heres the box it comes in:
Shot of the manifold:
And another one:
Another question to anyone that already owns the manifold.. Does your whistle really really loud?? My car sounds like I have a blower on it the thing whistles so loud... I have no idea what it could be but it sounds like a blower and im all motor dammit!!

My friend threw the manifold on when we were putting together my engine. I was suppose to get an oem ITR one but he said try this instead. The weird thing about this mani is the hoses are routed to the back. But all in all the manifold fits great.
Too bad you just got it running, we need a before and after dyno from a disinterested third party such as yourself to show what kind of gains this IM will give you.

oh yeah, too bad you're still breaking in the motor. seems like you didn't dyno tune it yet.. so if you do tune later on, you can't really tell how much the IM adds performance.
So this would fit a b17a1 head (still a pr3 like the b16a and b18c5)?
I'm thinking about picking one up, does it come with a throttle body? What are you guys using for a throttle body?
Also, how long does it take to install? Looks nice.

I wish I had before and after dynos but well see how much Ill be putting down when I get tuned in a couple weeks. Just wanted to show you guys how the manifold fit and everything.
Im using my b16 throttle body and no it doesnt come with one.

I have a skunk2 manifold and it makes a loud annoying whistling you describe at about 30% throttle. Ive searched around and apparently it is characteristic of the manifold and not a vacuum leak. Itd be great if someone could figure a way to get rid of the sound though.

Describe what you mean by 30% throttle... like what gear and speed do you hear it at? Same question goes to the guy with the new AEBS too.
As usual, I'm looking at avoiding mods that make the R much more annoying to drive on a long drive. Last night coming home from a concert (Evanescence and Cold own!!) with already-ringing ears and listening to the R drone on and on for 2 hours blew. Is the whistle constant on the highway?

Im pretty sure the whistling is the intake filter at a particular throttle position. I have the JG manifold and mine whistles at partial throttle as well.
the whistling is independent of speed and gear. Whenever the gas pedal is pressed down about 30% it whistles. If i press the gas pedal back or further the sound goes away.
I dont think it's the air filter making the noise, this is much louder than whistling air intakes ive heard. Plus im using the same air intake and it didnt whistle before.

I have the AEBS IM and it does whistle now and again. But then again the whistle was also present with just my AEM CAI. Now the whistle is just a bit louder. This whistle seems to be when I am about 25%-40% on the throttle and accelerating slowly, like up a hill, and does not matter on the gears.
I do I do. Know anyone in So CAL that can hook me up? I really don't want to spend hundreds of $ at AEBS to experiement. I may seem like a baller to the average person, but I am really not, SHHHHH

an average dyno run should cost around $35. call local dyno shop, ask for their price and good to go.

The whistling starts at about 2500 rpms.. Its real loud like a supercharger. I wouldnt recommend this if you dont want extra noise. My friend was driving next to me on the highway and he said he could hear it.

I have a guess for the whistling issue, If you look at the pics of the inside of the manifolds (ITR vs. AEBS), from the other big post, you will see that the AEBS has the small "tubes" protruding out into the the interior of the manifold, whereas the ITR's is flush with the surface. THis may be causeing the air turbulance, and hence the whistling at certain resonating frequencies (rpm/throttle).
If I get this manifold, Im thinking of taking a dremel to the little "tubes", if my theory is true, this will eliminate the whistling, and lessen the resistence to the incoming air by a tiny bit.

Interesting theory.... I checked a pic of my skunk2 manifold to see if the pipe stick out inside but they look pretty flush to me. Id still like to hear what happens to your manifold though.

Very good idea... Let me know how that goes.. I might have to take mine off and try the same thing
