GSR transmission gears and Clutchmasters 7 lLB flywheel installed!
I had the trasmission rebuild by HASport with GSR internals..all went well and the work was done very quickly (dropped tranny off Wednesday..picked it up Friday)
Install went well...took about 2 hours to get the new flywheel, tranny back on the car. Only mistake was not replacing the ACT 6 puck disc..its pretty worn and Ill need to replace it in about 2 months probably.
So..everything done...tranny fluid in..time to test drive.
Took it out and let it rip! 1st to 2nd gear ;ayed down some fat rubber! Much more then before! 2nd to 3rd shift puts me about 500 rpms higher then previous..and I can definately tell! Once in third it just pulls! Its great! Winds out very quick..next thing I knew I was already doing 80!
Flywheel feels good..revs quicker..but nothing like "Oh damn!"...its nice though.
I dont notice any bad effect from the lighter flywheel really. The only thing is when I push in the cluth..the RPMs drop to around 800 and then bounce back to like 1200 then it settles back down...something it didnt do before...but its not a bad thing.
The only complaint about the setup is that the gearings is alomost too short. This is because of the low 7000 RPM redline...4th gear tops out at 102 MPH...so any race over that speed kinda sucks cause I have to go into 5th.
I definately need a higher redline.

Ill probably still do the same setup...
ACT 6 Puck with stock pressure plate (might get stock ITR plate)
The setup held up very well...had the cluth for about a year and I abuse it quite often.

How much was the tranny rebuild? And was it just syncros or what?
The install of the GSR gears into my LS tranny case was done by Locash at HASport for $210.
So total was $418 for a rebuilt GSR transmission..not bad if you ask me.
Locash said the GSR gears looked in brand new condition..and Geoff (who I got th gears from) said they had 14k miles on them

Not a bad price, my 2nd gear has been scratching for a little while, I'm going to pull the tranny and have inspected as soon as I have some free time, at least I know it isn't going to cost a fortune.

I just did a tranny rebuild on mine after 2nd started getting pissy
I got a tranny shipped from a 99gsr with only 25k miles on it for $300
but that was only because it had a cracked housing
I do have some spare gears, synchros and any other tranny parts that i'd be willing to sell
Notice that HX Guy got the 14k mile GSR gearset (and all internals, which is nice) for $150. That's why it didn't cost him much. Try having a dealer fix your tranny and you'll spend twice that just to get second gear fixed.
Just like yaksplat said, it's cheap if you have the resources (spare parts, knowledge) to do it yourself, but otherwise, DO be prepared to spend a fortune

Hey Madslackin...you sent me that email about the tranny rebuild correct?
It was kinsa strange because I thought (from what I was told) that Joe himself did the work...if it was you..thanks alot!
The tranny is working beautifully! The shifts are crisp and precise in every gear.
You mentioned something about unusal wea on the reverse gear? As in what?
I havnt had any problems going into reverse..so I think it should all be ok.
Oh yea..I gave the LS gearset away for free to a buddy that helped pull/install the tranny...so he can use whatever parts he needed off of it (2nd gear I think)
Thanx alot of the work you did...mad props

remember that the gsr tranny has different synchros for second gear
i believe it's a double cone synchro
the same design that is being used in every gear now for the RSX
