A new CRX???
Has anybody heard of honda bringing the Honda CRX? I sure think that would be sweet!!! I would sell my self to hot Swedish chicks to get one!!! how bout u? If you know of any websites where i could read about honda bringing back the crx please post them!!!
Never gonna happen, the closet thing to a new crx will be the insight. Which the one below is a photo chop.
While Honda thinks about reintroducing one of its most glorious models, we can't help but blurt out our full support, - this is a no-brainer, guys.
The CRX was brilliant when Honda developed it almost 20 years ago, and the tearaway combination of light and potent hasn't lost its appeal. Honda is believed to be seriously considering developing a two-seat sports car with those qualities, using its new Global Small Platform. The car, which Honda insiders are already calling the CRX, could appear in late 2004 or early 2005.
For the Japanese market, the CRX will exist in two forms: an entry-level model with a 1.0-litre DOHC VTEC triple producing appoximately 74 kW (the engine derived from the block used in Honda's Insight hybrid coupé), and a hardcore 1.6-litre DOHC four cylinder engine (also with VTEC) generating 110-115 kW. Not incredible, until you realise that the target weight for the four-cylinder coupé is said to cut under 800 kg. Put it this way - that's 200 kg less than the Mini and 175 kg lighter than an MR2.
This gives the 1.6-litre variant a tidy 7.27 kg/kW ratio in the worst case. By comparison, a 225 kW VXII SS Commodore has a kilogram-to-kilowatt ratio of 7.52. So, if Honda builds it, the little CRX will stand-out quick. Transmissions proposed are a five-speed manual for the 1.0-litre three cylinder, and a six-speed manual for the 1.6-litre. Use of Honda's CVT is said to be under study, but is not yet an official part of the programme.
The new two-seater is small, and information from Honda indicates a wheelbase in the 2250 to 2350 mm range, overall length of less than 3650 mm, width of 1690 mm and height below 1270 mm. This makes it a strictly a two-pew affair.

They wouldn't necessarily call it a CRX because of the 10+ year gap. They would change it a bit to keep it from looking like an old school CRX (sorry, I'm getting into this; a CRX), and call it a Blista Compact or something.
I'm not too up and up on the Insights, but what did they do to photo chop that? Just the rear wheel fender thing? I might look into getting a frickin insight, because that blue car is beautiful. Absolutely luscious... aaahhhhhh. Sorry, I'm a bit tired....

Yep,don't believe it.
There is a new model comming out that is a 2 seater, but it will be called the S1000(or so they say now).I don't think they will EVER make another car that will live up to the name of the CRX.

Ok let me vent my views. I might step on a few toes, but I don't care. First off I will go on record by saying nothing they (Honda) will build will ever be anything near the beloved CRX. It might visually resemble one, but the similarities will end there. Over the past couple of years being an avid Honda enthusiast I have felt betrayed. Getting rid of the CRX back in '92 and replacing it with the Del Slo was insulting enough. Then they threw away double wishbone front suspension in favor of Mac-Strut in 2001. I'm sorry but 01+ Civics will never find a home in my garage, same with RSX-es. I am impressed that in the American market they had enough respect to not call the DC5 an Integra. IF they would bring back the CRX name on something similar to these overweight poor performing platforms, I would consider it an insult. The S2000 and the NSX are the last of the Good Hondas. 05 CRX

I couldn't have said it any better. My gf wanted a new civic back in 2000 so I told her wait til the 01s come out and we'll see what they look like. Well we did, and then promptly bought a 2000.

I also agree....the 00' Si coupe was the last phat Honda IMO.....and the only 2000+ Honda I like is the S2000....trust me I do Valet Parking part-time and the new Hondas are nothing like the classic feel of a 88-91 Honda. But that Insight would be sick with a swap...I think that photochopped one looks phat.
Look at it from Honda's point-of-view.... They're producing a lazy, fat, poor-handling Civic, and their bloved integra isn't catching as much press as the Celica, or the WRX, or even the LanEvo... The S2000 has won praise, and they're putting a 2.4L iVTEC in it for 2004... but the poor Civic Si is taking a REAL beating. While all honda enthusiats know that all Honda has to do is snap its fingers, and the Type-R's come to town, the USDM consumers don't see that, and instead they're going for other makers like Nissan, Toyota, Ford, and even... ugh... Hyundai. So wouldn't it make sense that Honda would freshen up it's image slightly like Mazda and nissan? Honestly, the S1000 will rock, they bring the R's over, and that's Kick-*** times 3, and if they do what I'm thinking, they'll bring the CRX back to conquer that low cost/high fun and effeciency niche that it left wide open all those years ago. That's just my .02.... lol

I am not hating but I really don't know where you guys ever got the idea that hondas mission in life was to be a performance car company.
It wasn't then, it isn't now and never will be in the future. I am unfortunatetly for me, old enough to remember when the 1G CRX came out. I owned one. They were not regarded as "High Performance" cars by Honda OR anyone else for that matter. They were little under powered econoboxes, that were practicle and handled well, were reliable and got good mileage, and were cheap. They were GIRLS cars. THAT was their whole reason for being. It wasn't until a few years later after being written up in car magazines and winning "Best-of's" that honda woke up and realised,"Hey we have an untapped market for these cars, that we should exploit". Honda HAS NEVER been about "performance" for performance sake. The cars always had to be practicle in use and ecologically advanced FIRST. So in the minds of the people that run honda those ideas come before "performance", once those goals are met and the cars are accepted by the buying public for what they are, relaible economical, ecologically sound people transportation. THEN,and only THEN does honda turn its eye to the performance potential of any of its cars. Two exceptions being however the NSX and the S2000. But these ARE the exceptions NOT the rule.
I hope this made some sense to all you guys who haven't lived with their hondas as long as I lived with mine.
And if the guys who decide these things at honda think a new CRX is the way to go you won't get some screamer right out of the box, you're gonna have to wait a couple years for a new CRX TypeR. LOL

ok my .02cents....... If that was the real crx and they kept the weeight down it would potentially just be a more modern newer and creature comfort friendly car.....rather then the 15yr old beast that I drive, I love my car but as things go it gets to be a pain in the *** I would still keep it but I would love to have a sweet and lushes NEW economical car to go along with the 1.74 gas prices I have to pay.
It is sleek , smooth, and agressive....but is it going to be 20k+ then thats not to friends to my wallet which is the idea of the crx. Does it get good mileage and weight factors in does it weigh as much as a rsx/integ/accord if it does **** off. Cuz thats not the CRX platform we fell in love with but untill we get things like that lay off that **** and just appretiate it for what it is a picture and a tasteful looking car.

That photchop does look clean & it almost looks believable, but if Honda actually had the intention of releasing a new rex we'd know. This insight chop has been floating around for 2-3 years & this discussion has come up multiple times. This is almost like the constant questions in teh DC5/EP3 area about the new hype r's coming to america......now, if I had teh $$$$$ I would probably chop up a real insight & drop in a real motor.

Haha, I was wondering if anyone knew about that. Yeah, I was thinking last night about what all I could do to the insight to make it look like that... But then realized that it was way too much money; money that I don't have to blow. Or ever will. It would be badass to have that car though if it were real.
