Default How to stop vibration without weighing my car down?

About to buy my system, i am getting 1 12" and an amp that i can remove easily. However, i am almost expecting my trunk to sound like a rattling POS like my girl's civic did originally.

the thing is...i am trying to keep weight down, i drive a prelude, which is a pig to begin with, so added 50-80 lbs of dynamat is not going to help me at all.

What I'm wondering is...is there much i can do to combat rattles without adding too much weight? some kind of foam, maybe? I know that these materials use mass and density to stop the rattle, but is there anything i can do?

maybe i shouldnt get subs at all

thoughts, anyone?

Wait until after you have the sub and decide from there. My Diamond TDX 12 with 1000 watts was very loud, but my rattles were not too bad unless the volume was obscene.

there are small rubber stops on the trunk that screw in and out that you can tighten up the trunk with. also try moving the bar your trunk latches to down a very little bit. Those two things will help a lot. Another thing is put good double sided tape behind you license plate. The only other stuff that usually rattles is your back deck and you can wedge something in there or something.

Companies like Fusor, Duramix, & Sem have expanding structure foams. Fusor has the best. Usually you will have to find a body shop to do this for you or an AutoBody supply store is were you need to find these foams. Also Rubberizzed undercoating in an aerosol form works good. Dynatron 706 or 3M 8883 works best. last post about doubleside tape your license plate and other stuff another excellent idea. Combine these two post and you got a winner.

sounds like a start, i mesed around with my girl's trunk a lot in terms of tightening things and messing around with the trunk latch, but it didnt work very well. hopefully my prelude will be easier...

I stuffed Roxul Safe and Sound between all my body panels from the trunk to the door jambs (2 door coup). Definitely reduces vibration and rattles!!
