Help on Launching
I know this might not be the place for this topic, but its where I post the most, so I'd like ur guys help. I dont know how to launch my cars. I couldnt do it if my life depended on it. I easily have a low 12 second car, but all the 12 second cars I race always beat me by a half-to two car lengths. The thing is that, off the start, they take a good four car lengths and I always end up catching them and narrowing the gap. My question to u is how do I launch? I usually hold the accelerator at 3k rpm, drop the clutch, and put it in first..but all I seem to do is get tons of wheelspin. Also when I try and put it in gear w/ my foot on the accelerator, it seems harder to get into first gear. Can anyone who has a turbo r or a high hp all motor R help me in telling me what rpm I should launch at? What tire pressure should I have? Instead of holding my foot on the accelerator in neutral, should I just pump the accelerator and then drop the clutch? Next week I wanna kick some serious ***, but I need help.
Thanx,
Aly

im basically stock (only mod: cai) but what i do is i hold the revs at like 3-3,500 and then slowly let out the cluthc and when i feel the wheels catch igive it some more gas but not floor it and i keep letting the clutch out at the same speed then when im pretty sure the wheels caugh and they wont spin, i drop it and floor it

But seriously, unless you have some sort of FI or one of those rare Hondas with tons of torque I would clutch dump right before the VTEC crossover.
My R is mostly stock, but there is still the same technique to launching. What I do is hold the cars rpm right about 5500 to 6000 (around VTEC) with the car in first, hand break pulled and clutch just out to where it starts to grab. The hand break keeps me from rolling at the start. Light turns, i drop the hand break while feathering the clutch to keep the RPM's up so I have some good power. Sure it smokes the clutch, but you get a great launch. Same for second, feather the clutch to keep the rpm's up and the wheel spin down.

all i do is....hold it right under my vtec crossover...which is 5500...pull the ebrake up....then when its time to whoop ***..i drop the ebrake...and let the clutch burn out and then once the clutch is fully engaged i floor it...you'll git a lil wheelspin but it should hold and that should do it...best way to learn..keep practicing or do what i did...practice in the rain....
oh by the way...im on a act 6 puck....i dont recommend doin this too much on a stock one unless yer planning on swapping it out...

Dont drop the clutch, slowly let it out and keep adding power. You want to keep the rev's up and wheel spin down. To do that you have to feather the clutch.

see the thing is that I have so much torque, so I stay in one place if i rev it passed 2000rpm in neutral
thats why u have to let the clutch burn out.........and you wont sit there all day doing nice little burnouts instead of whippin ***....
