5Zigen fireball installation anyone else had problems?
I just got back from installing my 5Zigen fireball exhaust for my TypeR. From reading the messages on this board I figured that this was a good exhaust and I hadn't heard of anyone else having problems. My impression is that this exhaust is crap! I should have bought the Comptech exhaust. When installing the exhaust the flanges would not line up correctly. We had to heat the exhaust pipe with a torch in order to bend it to fit where it connects at the axle back and where it connects in the middle to the cat. I bought the exhaust from Diablo Autosports. I contacted them and they said that if I hadn't tampered wiith it I could of had it replaced. My dad who used to build racecars and owns his own mechanics shop has been in business for himself for over 30 years and knows what he is doing. It also hits the heat shield under the car and causes a annoying vibration. I wanted to know if anyone else had fit problems on their exhaust. Also if anyone has undercar pics of their Fireball please post them. I am going to try to get this straightened out one way or another and I really don't want to have to drop another $600 on another exhaust. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
2yrs ago, I just bought the Axe-back one for my 97 ITR and bolted on directly with factory B-pipe flange with no problem in less then 10 min.
I think because Cat back B-pipe made in US for USDM. So its some CA Home made B-pipe because JDM don't fit.

i've had no problems. i've gone thru both a north american spec one, as well as a jdm version, and they've all bolted on.
It goes over the axle. Its the b-pipe thats messed up. It didn't line up with the axle back. Where the flanges meet and are bolted together. It had about a one inch gap at the bottom of the flange so it looked like this /\ when tryin to bolt it together. I decided to take it to the shop and have a custom b-pipe made. Will that work o.k.?
i had no problems with the install...straight boltup.
but that "bottleneck" at the cat flange was annoying so i removed it and it flows better.

I have the Fireball on my car and it fits better than my friends APEXi N1 which rubs his back bumper and leaves black soot all over his yellow paint. In my opinion the Fireball has excellent fit & finish, including those perfect bead welds in the muffler. You might have gotten a defective one or something.
I've heard people call the Fireball loud. But mine is totally quiet, just a few decibels louder than stock with a little raspiness in vtec. Way quiter than my friends APEXi N1. I still have a stock cat/header so that helps too. But my Godspeed t/p and JDM header will be going in soon. So much for being quiet!
okay, thanks . . . hmmmm. i just installed a JDM 4-1 header and 2.5" carsound cat, and my 60mm thermal is loud as hell. i want to modify my stock b-pipe and put the stock exhaust back on, but i'm worried about the stock muffler still being a restriction...
Thermals are known for being loud, since it's an all-out perfromance exhaust. Go with the factory B pipe and Fireball axle-back. That should be nice and quiet.
yeah. how much do the fireball axle-backs run, typically, and where do i get one?
the spoon 'sports' axle-back looks good, but $700? ouch!

i have the fireball on my sedan, no problems here. i love the way it sounds. its definately quieter than the N1, but loud when u want it to be. i have a vid of me beating an R at palmdale a few weeks ago. u can really hear it since the R's exhaust was super quiet. if ya want i can email it to u
Ok here is the update. I contacted the manufacturer. They are sending me a new s-pipe and b-pipe for the exhaust. I had to put them on a credit card and when I ship them back they are going to refund my card for the b-pipe and s-pipe. While I was talking to them they said to look at the exhaust that they have part numbers engraved on each one and they all should be the same 6092. I looked under the car tonight with a flashlight and a mirror and the b-pipe is engraved 6062. They are even sending it next day air. If it works out right. I will be very pleased. I just wanted people thinking of buying Zigen exhaust to know when they inspect the parts make sure they have the right part no's ingraved on them so they won't have to go through the trouble I did. thanks for your help
Im not sure Im going to call them tomorrow and ask what vehicle the b-pipe fits. When I find out i'll let you know.
