OT: Reminder... lift throttle oversteer owns. :(
Maybe this is an old VDO. I feel really sorry for the guy driving it.
Remember, lift throttle oversteers owns cars at the limit.

EDIT: car is an awd subaru. But, it can easily happen to a FWD.

what you will see is someone paying attention to things other than driving fast. A very bad combination in that situation. The only way out of that really would have been to straighten up and put hte brake pedal through the firewall and hope you dont tap the tire wall on the other side.

Subaru Legacy, right?
Subaru Legacy, right?
So, what exactly did he do? Not brake and try to take the turn, then it just oversteered and he was done for? So, he should have hit the brake slightly before the turn, right?
Just tryin to learn...

he turned in too early and too hot.
what he should have done once the spin started was countersteer and get on the gas, and/or get hard on the brakes and spin up the track.
but things happen much faster real-time than they appear to happen afterwards on video.

****, definitely makes me second guess about running my car. I think he felt that he was just gonna be able to sliiiiide the rear around smoothly so thats probably why he didnt countersteer very much until too late. If that was an R, could he have counter steered it sooner and floored it and hope that it would pull him back straight line again?

So is this a FWD or not? I always thought it was a AWD Impressa... saw this video a long time ago.
His comment at the end is priceless.
His cockiness leading up to the roll...

He should've not cheated to the middle of the track before turn-in, slowed down, and turned later.

It looked like he started gaining on the porsche in the corner and let off.
It also looked like instead of making smooth steering input, he gave it a small tug right before the tires started squealing.
Just to clarify, with a unmodified FWD car, the only way for the backend to come around it to lift the throttle right?

That is a classic video now. Didn't tap the brakes hard enough, and then tried to coast through the corner. WAAAAAAAAAY too late on steering input too.

With tires at autocross pressure on my Integra that wasn't always true...

I'm not sure if I would call that lift throttle oversteer - more like just driving too damn fast. It looks as if he hits the inner curb with the front right tire - but in any case that's a bad corner to go into too hot.
It's interesting he mentions at the beginning of the video that he went into the first corner "way too hot". Then he says "just ease off the gas and let the back end come around". You can hear his tires screeching and yet he doesn't seem to slow down at all. He's trying to catch the Porsche too much.
I'm not a big fan of the "hand shuffle" technique of steering - that's one of the reasons he doesn't countersteer in time. And yes - way early entry and not enough braking (if any) entering that last turn.
Very good video.
