Default fuel pump install help

i have an inline walbro 255 fuel pump kit for the crx, i thought install would be same as 5th gen civics but its totally different, has anyone changed there pumps in there crx before if so how did you do it? do i have to drop the tank? i checked under the back of the console area and noticed what seemed like the pump access but it looks very different, can someone shed some light on this.

Here I'll help you out.

I've done a Walbro 190 lph in my CRX tank. You have to buy a strainer for your gas tank, meaning you can't use the one that comes with the walbro. I've heard you should upgrade the wiring too, if you're running a 255 lph.

Anyways, just remember that you need to mount it in exactly the same position that your old pump was in. Use the stock spacer that holds the pump in (you'll probably have to buy some fuel line) and zap strap it in if you have to (I did, it works fine).

Are you installing an inline "booster" pump or an in tank pump. Assuming you are installing an in tank pump kit heres what I did to change mine (89 CRX).

Get your tank fairly close to empty (if you can drive your car).
Find the bolt head at the drivers side rear of the fuel tank and remove it to drain the remaining fuel. It sounds like you discovered the access cover inside the car, this is only for the fuel level sending unit, remove the cover and unplug the sender. Disconnect all the fuel tubes from the tank (there are four or five tubes connected to the tank). When you are sure that all the lines are removed support the tank with a jack under the center of the tank and loosen the straps that hold the tank in place. If there is still any ammount of fuel in the tank it will be very unstable on the jack so be careful, if the tank tips fuel will go to one side and make it difficult to keep the tank on the jack. Slowly lower the tank to make sure that you don't damage the wires going to the fuel pump. There is an access cover that the pump is under. If I remember right, the cover has six nuts holding it down. Remove them and take out the pump (it will come out of the tank, it just takes a little manuvering to get it out). Take note of the orientation of the filter so you get it put back together correctly. I had no trouble getting my walbro 190 kit to fit into the tank with the provided filter/strainer. I checked the polarity of the wires going to my pump with a volt meter to insure correct polarity when wiring in the new pump. If you do this be careful not to cause sparks for obvious reasons. I reccomend using the butt connectors that come in the fuel pump kit (I wasn't sure if my shrink tube would dissolve in gas over time). From here you just have to put it back together. A friend is really helpful in removing and installing the tank. Good luck.

I think I'm going to just use my air saw/body saw to just cut a square out above where the fuel pump goes into the tank. After I replace the pump with tank still in the car ( like DSM/Stealths do ) I'm either going to put some hinges on the peice I cut out or weld weld it back. Dropping the tank sucks if your car has lots of miles or any rust under it.

IMO a walbro 255 is too big for a SOHC. The only set-up I could see that would even come close to needing them would be a DOHC turbo..
