Engine Rebuild Question for H22a4!
I drive a 98 Honda Prelude Base with approximately 100,000 on the odometer. To make a long story short, I blew my engine after I mishifted and my mechanic told me that I need new piston rings, and since two of the cylinder walls are scratched, they need to be resurfaced. The thing that bothers me is that the walls are so severely damaged, 1/1000 inch will be taken off each cylinder. He also says I'll need 1/1000 inch larger size pistons to accomadate the new cylinder wall sizes. The pistons will be custom made at a local machine shop. Can anyone please tell me the negative effects this will have my engine and will it ever run the same as stock?
Why not overbore the cylinders to accomodate a standard oversize slug from one of the major aftermarket manufacturer's?
I just talked to my mechanic and he's gonna overbore the cylinders approximately 3/1000 inch to accomodate an aftermarket standard slug. Should I change anything else and I'll keep you guys posted once I found out which aftermarket piston it is. Thanks for your responses.
Dude...you need to step back a minute before you do this all over again.
H22a4 has FRM sleeves you can't just put in an aftermarket piston, it won't seat properly and ruin your entire sleeve.
The Honda Standard OEM overbore is 87.25mm vs. the stock 87mm. If you need to bore, buy the oversize .25 over Honda rebuild pistons. But don't bore the block until you get the pistons...there are A and B sizes, bore each cylinder to the piston.
Don't screw this up!
