any of you guys with type-r's can i see a pic of your vtec solenoids? i bought my gsr swap and now im just finishing up putting it all together, some of the parts that the kid gave me weren't for a gsr, but a type-r i believe. first of all he gave me an obd2 distributer with the 94/95 gsr, spliced a few wires and that was fine... the next thing is the vtec solenoid. it have no plug for the vtec oil pressure switch, so i went to honda and talked to one of their mechanic's and he told me that my vtec solenoid was off a type-r, maybe jdm... are they the same jdm and usdm? my vtec solenoid looks like a normal one except for where the oil pressure plug is there is nothing, just a depression in the solenoid...

you have a JDM VTEC solenoid. The JDM motors don't use the sensor you are missing. You may either have to swap it for a USDM one or run a JDM ECU if you aren't already.

 

so its a jdm itr solenoid? or are all jdm solenoids like this, no oil pressure switch...

 

both of my JDM heads were blocked off, and had no oil pressure switch at v-tec solenoid.

You have a few options:
1)Run a JDM ECU
2)Run Hondata where you can remove that switch
3)Get a USDM VTEC solenoid and run a US ECU
4)You can "short" that circuit out and fool the ECU

Whats the advantage or disadvantage to having the switch or not having it?

Why would the JDM motor not have it and vice versa witht he USDM?

Euro Rs don't have it also, Kenji had to fool my usdm p28 ecu on the harness. ask him!

 

The VTEC Oil Pressure switch is there simply for stupid americans who tend to beat on the car before it's warmed up. Go find the huge nerd ECU boards they can help you with chipping a USDM ECU so it wont throw the code. It's a non-tuning code anyway (doesn't affect the A/F ratio or timing)...There's no need to have it so long as you allow the motor to warm up before revving high.
