Kenji ECU or JDM header?
Header first. Then, ECU. If you do it other way, you won't gain any HP.
I had JDM 4-1 header, then purchase Kenji ECU. Even with I/H/E mod on my car, Kenji's ECU runs real rich A:F. You'll need at least a V-AFC to tune it.

i have heard a lot of good things about Kenji's work though. I wouldnt want to have to buy a chipped p28 and then have to tune it with a vafc...might as well go for Hondata...just my thoughts, any other suggestions?

Well, with my '01 I woul've had to run the following setup to get maximum output:
1. Kenji P28 ECU
2. Kenji Harness adaptor
3. V-AFC
These would've run me close to $650. That's almost in the PowerFC territory. The ECU might be good for plug-n-play, but if you're utimately tuning your car, you might as well go Hondata or PowerFC w/ datalogger.

so if I just slap a chipped p28 in my R with i/h/e what kind of gain am i looking at. I know right now im running rich as hell anyways (fuel deposits on my exhaust, yeah its bad)
I have a dyno chart, if you want to see stock ECU vs. Kenji P28. Both with I/H/E.
I gained midrange... 'cuz VTEC was lowered to ~5,000 or something. You really need to tune your ITR after you get Kenji P28 ECU.
Personall, I would save up money and get PowerFC w/ datalogger. More tuning potential.

Im using Kenji's ECU with i/h/e, and compared with the stock ecu, the midrange is much much improved, with the powerband being a hell of a lot smoother than stock. Id highly recommend it to anyone!

EDIT: I would like to see the dyno if you have it....</TD></TR></TABLE>
I'll try to fine it, take a picture and post it online this weekend. (Asahi & Kengs can vouch for the validity of my claim.)
Kenji's ECU is good, don't get me wrong. But, if you are on stock I/H/E, then you would be definitely better off with a JDM header now. That's power you can feel right away.

Thanks for the kind words about my ECU.
When using my ECU it is best to use a VAFC to dial in the fuel settings.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.

-kenji</TD></TR></TABLE> I run your mugen spec p28 right now on my jdm itr motor. The tuner at the shop where i pulled the dyno run (178 whp on jdm itr motor w/ jdm itr 4 to 1, jdm itr cat, and greddy evo) was very impressed with the program. He said all we need to do is lean it out a bit and it should put me in the 180s...I was thinking of getting hondata earlier on but he said a vafc would be all I needed to tune the program.
(plan on leaving it relatively stock)

aint got enough for the suspension i want
tires...yeah well i do need those but stockers arent used up yet
so why not just get a V-AFC and tune it with my P73 ECU?

If you already have a header, you can get V-AFC and get substantial mid-range by playing with VTEC x-over and fuel settings. When you're ready, bring the car up to ATL, we'll get it tuned to your liking.
