Plan to spend more than the KBB value. Trust me. Especially if it's a fellow enthusiast seling the car.
Also, I got a pretty good deal on my dearly departed 98 ITR in 2001. It was almost stock, had 32k miles on it, & I paid $17,700. And it was worth every penny.

Has to be the stupidest thing ive heard in my life.......If you can find me a clean/semi clean 98 ITR for 12k, let me know, i'll buy it ASAP then sell it for a profit, if you can find 50 of them @ that price, i'll buy all of them ASAP CASH.
Supply and Demand, KBB, Edmunds, etc none of that matters with our cars. Even insurance compnanies dont go off that bullshit. if someone wants a 98 CW ITR then they will pay whatever the seller wants for it. If you think 17-18k is too much for a 98 ITR, then the car probably isnt for you, or you just dont want it hard enough, because another enthusiast will gladly pay that much for one.

I thought this would be a problem with I was purchasing my 97. Most banks will take into account that it is a limited edition vehicle. Apparently vehicles that are numbered in a series are considered collectors right from the get go. When my bank desided to give me the $ I was supprised, I then asked why and they told me its because it is a collector. I paid $18,500 for my 97 R last year and it had 29,000 miles on it and exerything was in mint condition. Plus it had Comptech Icebox and Mugen lowdowns.

This is very true. However, due to the low mileage on the car, the bank SHOULD lend you $1,000-2,000 above their book value.

Yes they should, but $1-2k is a lot on their terms. My bank only lent me 11,600 for it, a 98 for 13k with 91k miles. I don't mind the mileage one bit, and i'm sure I would have paid much more for a lower mileage car. I just ran my stats in edmunds, a 98r loses ~$1300 for high mileage(91k) and gains ~1300 for low mileage(30k). The private party price is still 12,800 with 30k!

The thing about KBB and Edmunds are that they are meant to be used as a starting point. Personally I don't think their values are valid for the Type R and other limited production, collector cars.
The earlier point made about supply & demand is absolutely true.

I'm looking at a 98 CW ITR right now. Eibach lowering springs, intake, Apline CD player and Polk speakers. It is in EC but has 68,000 miles. He is asking $16,000 but says it negotiable. What do you guys think?
