Rubbing sound
Hi all, I am posting to get some info on this. I just recently replaced my drive axles and lowered the car with Tokico Blue shocks and Neuspeed Sport springs. About 3-4 days later I noticed a rubbing sound. It seem there is something rubbing with each rotation of the wheel. I checked with the car on jack stands and looked under the car and could not spot any signs of rubbing. turned the wheels while under the car and did not notice any rubbing or any irregularity. I started the car and put it in gear and while the wheels were spinning freely, I could not hear any rubbing. I only hear it from the inside of the car and at times it feels like I am going over series of small bumps. When going slow it seems to be in the front, when I am on the highway, it seems to be in the rear. This is driving me nuts. Anyone had anything like this??? I would appreciate any input. Someone suspected the bearings but my previous experience with bearings have been a constant sound.

Yep, you probably bent the rotor dust shields when you put your axles in. It happens if you get to pounding around trying to seat those outside cv joints into the bearing/hub. See if it happens when you go around corners. Have your buddy hang his head out the window and listen for you to see if it's front or rear. If it is from the front, jack it up, pull the wheel of the offending side, and use a small pry bar to get that shield away from the rotor. Simple, ehh?

i ask if its metallic because theres a hub ring around the seat of where the cv joint mates that can get loose, and will make intermittent noise. sounds like a tinny ring and scraping sound. if you take the axle out you can check if it falls out. but its hard to put it back in without taking the whole knuckle off and pounding it in with equal pressure around the circumference. or you can just leave it out.
its not a wheel bearing, why does everyone think any wheel noise is a possible wheel bearing failure. do you ppl even know what a bad wheel bearing sounds, feels like?

tranny oil... I've not even thought of that. I guess I should check the level of my tranny oil lvl. I did find a possible culprit. I was shimming my rear and spun the rear wheels. I think my drums need to be turned. The wheel will not free spin. It seems to be rubbing on the brake shoes. I will get a rear break job next week and will keep you posted on what resolves this problem. But I think I will check and add any oil to my tranny if needed. I hope one of these possibilities will resolve my issue. Thanks for all the input.
