Default Front brake rotors....newb q's

Hey all.

I tried removing the screws holding my front brake rotors on and I was starting to roung out the Philips 'X' so I stopped. Since I haven't had these off before, I'm curious if those screws really do much to hold the rotors against the hub. What I'm really curious about is how much trouble will I get myself into if I just take me Dremel and grind the screw-heads out and leave the rest of the screws in the hub, kind of like locating pins?

Also, I'm planning on using generic 'made in China' rotors that I got from the Canadian version of Auto-Zone. Am I asking for trouble there too? The car is strictly a daily-driver, no race/auto-cross duty at all.

Many thanks,

Greg

get an impact driver!!!! they sell at autozone or sears if you want the tool to last for awhile. it come with the impact holder, phillip and flat tips, you put the tip in the holder and hit it with a big hammer! the screw will come out then!

An even easier way is to use screwdrive bits. Get the big philips and hammer it into the screw, then take a big adjustable wrench and turn the bit like it's a nut. Works everytime!

I just used a screw driver bit from those cheap tool kits and put it on a 1/4" socket and racheted the hoe off of there. Worked like a charm

But since you mightve already striped the screw if you drill it out or distroy the screw to get the rotors off, they are not important. The only thing those two screws do is hold the rotor on so they dont fall off when you have the wheels off. They do not actually do anything structural. The lugnuts are the ones that acutally hold the rotor firmly on the hub.

If all else fails...do what I had to do...buy some new screws and drill out the old ones...the screws cost a whopping $.52 each from Honda

Thanks for the replies, all. I didn't think they did anything too importantso that's good to know. I'm definitely going to do what I can to remove the things, I was just curious if I would get myself in trouble by removing them at all costs. I think I will get some new ones as suggested 'cuz I'm pretty sure I'm going to trash these ones in the removal process. I quit trying 'cuz I was starting to strip them and I didn't want to create a bigger problem.

Good info, thanks again!
