Default How difficult to replace hatch sunroof glass ?

Ugh , I know I'm a bad Civic owner but there isn't space for it in the garage . Anyway , a small limb fell on the roof during the storm we had last night but surprisingly didn't do any damage other than scuffing the paint and cracking the sunroof . It doesn't leak at the moment but want to fix it before it possibly gets worse . How hard is it to do this and is it the major PITA that it seems to be ? My deductible is $250 but I'd just as soon not make a claim and fix it myself .

It's a pain in the ***. Seriously.

Remove sunvisors, remove rear view mirror, remove dome light, remove the molding around the sunroof inside, pull the interior panels that hold the headliner up, or at least unsnap them enough to move them out of the way, drop the headliner, remove the drain tubes, unhook wiring, remove the screws that hold the sunroof tray in place, remove the tray from the car, remove/replace the glass, reinstall everything.

4-5 hours work, if you're paying attention, and trying not to mess anything up, easy. Took me about 6 my first time with a few breaks and working alone.

hatch sunroof glass takes no pain at all.I did it in my 89 EF.
It's very easy, no need to remove the liner, just get the plastic protectors off the rails (1 screw) and each corner off the glass has 2 screws. Watch for shims.
Reshim after you replace yours.

I'm dreading replacing my sunroof also. It's currently cracked in a whole bunch of places and looks nasty but doesn't leak water at all. The sunroof motor is also dead, I might just go to a shop and have them do it.

Sorry to bump an old thread. I need to replace the sunroof glass on my 1989 Civic Si. I searched and I gotten a lot of mixed information but mostly on CRX's. I assume that this method you speak about is for a Civic hatchback Si. A few months back, I went to the junkyard and luckily found an 89 Civic Si with a clean glass sunroof. When I had to get to the sunroof, I had to take off all of the interior panels to get to it (I.E. visors, dome light, rear view mirror, panels.) Ever since going through that I been procrastinating the replacement. Your method sounds easy but I read that you need to align or something when your installing it or else it will not close properly, is this true? By the way, any pictures of the process when you replaced it?

If anyone else has any info, specifically for a 1989 Civic Si hatchback , on replacing the glass sunroof, please chime in.
