Default Dropping my DC2

Hey guys, i'm looking into lowering my gsr within the next couple of weeks. To be frank i don't really know a whole lot about suspension systems. This is my daily driver, so i still want it to ride good and I don't want it completely slammed. I've been looking at coilover systems, Ground Control, Skunk2, not sure what the difference is. Basically what i wanna know what am I going to need, do I just need a coilover system, do I need new shocks, springs, etc... and what would you guys recommend I go with for my needs? Thx

if you want to lower your car just a little and still have a good ride comfort, just go with some eibach pro kit.

Just go with a regular spring/shock combo. how much do you have to spend?

Eibach prokit lowers 1.3~1.5" all around, makes it appear as if the front sits higher due to wheel well being bigger in the front.

Eibach sportline lowers more 1.8" or so. It has stiffer spring rating that prokit I think.

Neuspeed makes also nice springs. They lower a .25" more in the front to get rid of that "problem" mentioned above. Neuspeed editon is more expensive but you can modify the ride height a little with them.

For shocks, Koni Yellows is the best you can get, and stiffness is adjustable. Alternative would be Tokico Illumina 5ways, or KYB AGX 4way (cheapest).

If you dont want to sacrifice your ride quality on your daily driver, dont lower your car.

Otherwise, you'll need to get lowering springs and new struts/shocks that can handle the lowering.

The fellow above said the stiffness is adjustable in the Koni's. Its actually the dampening that's adjustable. You cannot adjust how stiff the springs are. I'd suggest going with a spring setup over a coilover system. The adjustment settings are a bit tedious, ride a bit harsher and cost a bit more for a quality setup. Just my 2 pence.

Coilovers = ~$200 range (go ground control - made with eibach springs)
Struts (shocks) = ~$350 kyb agx (adjustable) or if you don't want to adjust stiffness get tokico blues ($200?)
Camber kit = $200 (skunk 2)
Springs instead of camber kit (H&R sport 1.5r/1.7f- you'll love it...trust me..i have it for my daily) = $150

Alignment = $50 (someone who KNOWS how to work with camber kits-camber, toe in/out, caster reading etc)

Now these prices are give and take....you may find them cheaper you may not....
When you're done with that...enjoy your ride!

BTW: i wouldn't get coilovers because after adjusting them up and down....you'd have to get an alignment all over again...so i'd rather just do springs as a one time thing.... i'm lazy and poor that way

i can get ground control coilovers for around 300 bucks installed. I really don't want to spend more than 500 bucks for the parts and isntallation, preferably lower. The guy said that if my shocks were to blow he could get me some KYB's, so does that mean theres a good chance if I just have just the ground control coilovers installed that my shocks are going to go? I don't mind having a ride thats not quite as good as stock, but I just don't want it to be just a completely shitty and unbearable. Know what i mean?

i think $75 pretty damn cheap. anyway i was just offering. Sportline springs are $179... plus 75 for install is $254.. way less than the $300 installed quoted by the other shop.

I bought my H & R's for almost $200 and my shocks for about $300, KYB AGX's.

Had a friend install them both for $40. I'd say $75 isn't bad.

If you're looking for a 3/4" drop, I'd recommend some H&R OE's. I'm going to be installing my setup in a couple of weeks and it consists of: KYB AGX ($295) and H&R OE's ($125). For about $430, I think its a good setup for daily driving.

Eibach SportLine with Tokico Blues. would be cheap.. ............Springs will Ride Better then Coilovers...that is what i personally think. With coilovers you have an oppion of raising your car and lowering it. And lowering your car will make the Camber off which will eat the inside of your tires. And if you get a camber kit to correct the Camber....... it wont eat your tires when the camber is set at the right spot....then when you adjust the coil over your CAMBER kit will be set off..so you would be better off with springs, so yeah i think springs are better....if you got the Money go with like Tokico Illumina's adjustable 5 ways or a set of koni's ....that would be nice....

ok.. and ground control coilvers are just sleeves. they arent a full 1pc shock/spring like Tein's. its basically a shortened spring with a adjustable plate to raise or lower it.

Sorry, incorrect. My car is lowered 3" w/ -2.3 deg. camber in front, and after 10K miles on my current tires I'm only showing very very slight wear on the inside edge.

If you lower your car and don't get it aligned, the camber AND toe will be off, which is what will eat the tires. My car's toe is dead-on, and even with negative camber my tires are fine.

poorly aligned toe is what eats tires up more than anything else...but running with bad camber all the time will cause your tires to wear prematurely as well.
about the suspension setup...I have a set of comptech springs with a set of tokico blues and i love the way my car rides. of course the beefed up rear sway bar helps a lot too. but if you're looking to lower your car a little bit and make it handle nicely and still keep the ride quality fairly nice i like this setup.
for Comptech

If you just want to lower your ride a little and you don't feel like gettting coilovers i've heard good things about the tein s.tech springs. they lower your car a little bit more in the front then they do in the back so the front of your car won't look jacked up like calavera mentioned.
