around a certain RPM i hear a funny knocking noise kinda like a woodpecker... constant thud sound. i hear it until i accelerate a little bit higher then it stops. it is on the stock CX engine with 130,000miles and i am swapping in a week so the oil hasnt exactly been taken care of too well if that matters. it is a little black. i noticed this noise after a short shifter install also if you think that would play any role at all. if someone could help me i would like to know what this noise is. thanks alot

that was a hardcore downshift. i dont think that is what is making a noise in my car

 

could be lots of things like, shifter hitting exhaust, exhaust hitting gas tank, exhaust hitting rear bumper, or you vlaves might be ticking.

if you have an aftermarket exhaust and that short shifter, the shfter is probably hitting the piping.

 

ROD KNOCK. i bet you that you hear it around 3000rpm's and i have had this problem afew times be4 with my car due to poor maintnance from the previous owner

 

can someone give me a short version of rod knock?
