does anyone know what the real differences between these ecus is? anyone ever dyno/track test the differences between them?
i have a somewhat moddified d16a6 and one of each ecu. ive heard that the pg7 runs the a6 a little rich and the pr4 is way too rich...but ive never seen actual proof. what would be the best ecu for the following setup? i know the pg7 is better than the pm6 for a zc...but then the pm7 is better than the pg7......damn???
my setup is:
ported/milled head
d16y8 HG...9.5:1 CR
d16y8 intake manifold (ported for TB)
b18a1 TB (58mm)
delta 260 cam (260* and 0.400 lift int/exh)
jg/edelbrock cam gear
99-00 civic si cai (~66mm)
airmass header (slightly ported)
catco cat (my random-tech exploded)
dc sports catback
stock bottom end......for now
stock ignition (besides plug wires)
stock fuel system (besides adj. fpr)
as far as i know the differences are:
rev limit:
pm6=7100
pg7=7600
pr4=6800
also i read somewhere on tbe pgmfi boards that the pr4 doesnt control the fan like the pm6 does, but im not sure if this is fact

i have used all of above.....
PM6-6800
PG7-7200
PR4-6800
the PG7 its defenetely better than the PM6.... i have noticed a whole difference... dyno numbers i yet dont have...
i have also used a PR4.. ran my car rich also.... it gave me more low end torque... but the actual pull on high wasnt very desirable...
i also ran a chipped PR4.... and reved to 8k on my SOHC VTEC.... but the program wasnt very acurate and needed tuning...
as far as chipping goes..
90-91 PM6's can be chipped
i heard that the PG7's cant be chipped
PR4's can be chipped

It depends on which year PM6 you have. 90-91 seem to be more responsive than the 88-89 models... I used to run my Z6/Y8 motor with a PG7 ECU, but the PM6 gave me more potential - AFTER I chipped it to raise the revlimiter!
With the proper tuning ( I use a VAFC and an adjustable FPR and a very accurate a/f guage ) I have made my motor feel extremely responsive during street driving, it also has excellent top end power.
I think the PM6 is the better choice....

I've wanted to know the same thing.
This is what i've compiled and planned and plan on doing to complete the set up.
D16Y7 head (w/ gasket raises Compression to 10:1)
Y7 cam grinded by Crower (268 duration 10.5mm lift)
Skunk2 Cam gear
D16Z6 head gasket
D16Y8 intake mani. port matched to TB
GSR TB (60mm)
V-racing SIR (also working on a GSR intake w/ box DIY CAI system)
Neuspeed N2 Header
B&M FPR
No cat w/custom exhaust high flow muffler
PG-7 ECU (TEG)
I want to run it on a dyno then chip it to obtain the best settings.

wanna know why???
the PROM on the 88-91 has all the data on 1 chip.... wich contains other info from the ecu...
on 90-91 the PROM with the data its divided into 2 chips... that way u can solder a E-prom and have all this other programs added to it....
90-91 PM6's can only be chipped....88-89 cant!

ok just to set the record stright, PG7 and PM6s (the unchippable ones) can be chipped with adapter boards that blundar is selling on the PGMFI.org forums

is there a way to know the year of the ecu by just looking at it?
