Just installed a few new toys...
Just installed a mugen style front lip, and 5Zigen catback exhaust on my 98 LS today.
Very high recommendations on the 5Zigen, one of the only canister style exhausts with absolutely NO raspy or "bumble-bee-in-a-can" noise to it. Moderately quiet at low RPMs, nice and loud and bassy once you start tearing up the tac.
Not much difference in power up to 4 and 1/2 or 5 on the tac, but afterwards a huge difference is felt on the butt dyno... i wouldnt doubt a 10whp increase around 6k or so.
Hopefully i can get some pics up later...?

Just wait awhile on that exhaust, it'll become raspy eventually. The 5Zigen Fireball my friend used to have on his Civic was loud and raspy as hell.

go to any tuner/import shop and thats how much they will charge--
and the other post-- how much should an exhaust cost? go ahead and buy one from ebay for 200$ and see how it performs.

$80 is pretty reasonable. Most of the labour is probably in removing the old exhaust where the bolts have either seized or rusted. This sort of thing is never obvious but you should realize why a bolt on, as simple as it may seem isnt always the case.
Yeah, $588 shipped is a bit pricey but you figure shipping for an exhaust is normally $75 and up. Sounds like close to retail price anyhow.
A new mod is always a fun thing... but be mindful, not everyone will appreciate a loud exhaust, especially at night. Enjoy your catback dude

My 5zigen has yet to get raspy, and I have had it on my 94 LS for a few months now, however my friends Civic 5zigen is very raspy, and yea, $588 is a grip for that. Oh well, I'm sure your happy

for the same reason that sailors refer to their ships as "she", and why you made a stupid reply. It's just something that's done, but there's really no reason behind it.

damn...588 is a lot for a 5zigen...i would of gotten an rs*r or skunk2 for that money, 80 is reasonable i guess but all shops around here charge 50
, or just spend the 30 mins and do it yourself

as far as not wanting loud exhaust in certain situations, i was surprised by the very low level of noise low on the tac, in fact i was able to drive it around very low profile by shifting low in the gears.
As far as price goes - The price of 588 INCLUDES shipping AND 38.00 in tax, you subtract those and you are looking at 450 - 475 as the price of the exhaust, a normal rate for a quality name brand cat-back system. SKunk2's were brought up which can go for 525+ before shipping. I payed less.
As far as the $80 install goes, this was partially because the stock exhaust system was rusted into place and had to be torched off... i actually could have had it done for 40-50 bucks but would have had to wait until tomorrow night.. i was impatient, and had a 200 dollar night at work last night so didnt mind paying the extra to avoid a tortorous 36hr wait.

had my 5Zigen for 2 years now running with a test pipe.
the thing is loud. i guess everyone's perception of loud is different. had to install fatmat into the car because i was constantly screaming trying to talk to people on the phone.
definately a unique tone to it. and yes you will set off car alarms in parking garages.
make sure to pickup some eagle one never dull to shine up the canister after every wash.

really hard to DIY on exhausts unless you have a lift or a way to get your car up high enough to get under the car....

i was going to attempt to park the front wheels on the curb and the back on the street to get some room, which i thought was pretty clever, haha, but everything was rusted on and needed a blow torch to get it off.
For the mugen style lip i had to drill some holes into the lip to get it bolted into the left and right bottom sides of the front end, it was either that or drill into the front end and use the retardedly placed predrilled mount locations for the lip. I opted to cut up the 100 dollar lip instead of my 8300 dollar car... haha.
It was a tight fit and i had to tweak it and mess with it alittle but it is now completely flush, and i also have it unpainted, i agree it looks great black, but i do plan to paint it, just waiting because my buddy will eventualy do it for free for me (works at an autobody shop). I am very happy with the lip, gives the front end a nice clean and slightly more aggressive look.

you said that it takes 30 min, and you did it on 4 jackstands...sorry, but i find that incredibly hard to belive, jacking, getting all stands under, tearing out old exhaust, bolting up new exhaust.... at least and hour or two.

Actually you can do a exhaust system in about 30 min useing 2-4 jack stands and a jack. I've done so many of them I have no problem at all, pulling a stock or aftermarket system and putting on another in 30 min. Just gotta know what yer doing.
As for the cost of a Fireball system yeah that is kinda steep, they run about $375 out here in Cali. But 5Zigen is out here so that maybe why they are cheaper.
And just a percaution, keep an eye on where the hangers weld onto the muffler and where the exhaust piping enters or exits the resonators...Fireballs are notorious for breaking or seperating at those areas.
