Well, I used to have a 97' Prelude awhile back, but I wrecked it into the back of an Explorer and it was considered totaled. (boring story, so I wrote write it out) Anyhow, I found another 97' Prelude, but its from a Private seller, and was wondering what all I would need to do when buying this car. My other car, my dad went to the dealership and bargined them down and did all the paper work and **** like that, but I still paid for it, but with this car, I'm most likely going to have to do it on my own and was just wondering what I would need to do as far as getting it registared to my name and also messing with the tax and title ****. Is there anything big I have to do? Whom ever has experience in buying a car from a Private seller, could really help me out alot....

First he has to sign the title putting down how much you bought it for....have him write it for less, thus tax will be less, but give him the amount you both agreed on. Once that is done go to your Sec of State (DMV) and have the title. You will be issued a new one that says you are the owner of the car. Insurance you just have to work out with your ins. co. I had temp insurance put on the car I was gonna buy in OH. At the time I currently lived in MI and that was a real treat trying to deal with my bank on the issue.
Its pretty much straight forward...if you have any Q's hit me up or just call your DMV to see what exactly you need when you bring it in

 

The guy is selling it for $10K, so I would pay him that, but could him and I just tell the tax people that I only paid a $1? I figure they would probably call him also just to confirm. Would I only have to pay tax on that, or would there also be other taxes that I would need to pay? I'll probably have my dad deal with the insurance, cause he can usually find something pretty good.

lets put it this way...you and him work out a deal...he is getting money either way. If hs cool he will help you out and write it for say 7,000 even. Thats a reasonable price imo, then you give him 10, or less if you negotiate. All depends on condition of vehicle. The title you and him have to sign is where the price is written down. Tax/Title are the only real fees assessed to someone buying a car. Tax in MI is 6% of the sale price (one time fee) then registration or the car, as well as plates and a title trasfer fee. That is Michigan though, dont know about TX though.

BTW: those turn signals are finnaly being used you sold me so long ago....they are going to april becus she broke her stockies or something to that affect.

Thanks alot man. I haven't seen the car yet, but if I get there in time before he sales it, then I'll see whats up. Damn, I knew your screen name looked familar to me. I sold you those turn signals months ago. Has april started her auto to manual swap yet? I have to send back her money, cause she was buying my ICU and Red Key from me, but the thing is, she would also need my ECU for it all to work, but I already sold it to someone else. Hope you get a good deal on this car...Im looking at getting another opne here real soon too. Just dont want to spend alot money again and go into debt. I know it sounds bad, not wanting alot of money and trying to find a nice 5th gen lude. Ha the jokes is gonna be on me.
