Do cams require cam gears?
Hey everyone, I was interested in buying a set of cams for my h22. Do I also need the cam gears to get it to work properly? Also, I do not plan on revving the engine over what I do now, so do I also need the valvetrain work, or is that just for higher revving motors?
thanks
thanks
well no you do not need gears for the cams there just to help tune them to run there best.and if the cams you buy are to big and when they compress the sring if the springs cant handle it they will bind and pop off..so i would suggest new springs with large cams if recomended by the cam co.
Its good to have cam gears cause u can centerline ur cam more acurate. Also u can move the power around a bit. But if u have high compression its best to check piston to valve cleareness. Thats done Via removing the head and puttin clay on the top of the piston. Most times u can get a deg or two safely with high comp all depends on lift of the cam.
I dont have a high compression engine or anything. I just won an auction for a hell of a deal on crower stage 2 cams and just wondering what i need. The only problem is that I am far from a dyno. Thanks guys. Is the valvetrain interchangeable between skunk2 and crower, or should I stick with crower?
usually with OEM camshafts (typeR, typeS, etc), you don't need adj. cam sprockets, you can just run them outta the box with your stock sprockets, but you can run adj. sprockets and have a dyno session to see what power you can extract out of the cams & engine. It doesn't hurt to have them is what I'm saying.
If you go w/aftermarket cams, usually they work best when they're dialed-in/tuned on a dyno (w/adj. sprockets of course).
