Before going turbo - What to do?
Hi!
What engine upgrades would you recommend, before going turbo? I was thinking about upgraded ConRods, forged pistons, etc.. I know you have to alter the compression as well, but I'm not sure how much.
All tips and hints are apreachiated!

You wil be able to run a turbo and the stock motor. It juts will have to be tuned great and you will not be running high boost.

dont run a lot of boost(no more than 8psi, but that is pushing it on the stock bottom end and probably wont last long) without building up the bottom end. sleeves would be nice. you dont HAVE to change the compression, but if you plan to run higher boost, you might want to. be prepared to shell out some dough for tuning(whether it be tuning yourself with hondata or standalone EMS or pay someone to tune it for you) or you may be in for some headaches. <u>TUNING IS KEY</u> if you are serious about it, know EVERYTHING needed and EVERYTHING that can possibly go wrong. dont expect it to go smoothly and be prepared for the worst. other than that have fun

8psi is very do-able as long as you tune it. tune tune tune is the key...especially in this case. high compression and boost is a great combo for a street setup. Just know the limits and get it TUNED
All in all, this is some good advice to follow. Read....read some more and when you're done reading. Find more to read. The more you know, the better.

I suggest you pick up some reading material from your local bookstore. There are numerous books regarding turbo's and forced induction in general.
These will give you a broad idea of what's involved when an engine is under boost.
Naturally, our engines weren't designed to see boost, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can not boost them. A stock B18C5 can handle well up to 10psi of boost, if not more, if it is tuned correctly. It is a smart idea to reinforce the bottom end with stronger parts because of the added stress from a more potent combustion.
What ever you do, do not take shortcuts on the fuel delivery system.

Thank you all for your feedback! I understand that I need to do some serious research on the subject. I've been trying to do some reading on the FI forum as well. My block has a bit of milage on it, so Im doing internals upgrades soon. I was thinking in the lines of a jun kit or something like that.
