Is it critical to have the crank installed before torqueing down the head?
I can't install my crank yet because I still have to get some main bearings. I need to know if I can reinstall my head & torque it down without worrying about the block twisting due to the absence of the crank. Knowledgeable input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I answered before I had my morning coffee.

the twisting won't be as severe, if you really have to and use a block girdle that will help some ...
You risk scarring your sleeves from having the rods and pistons sitting in cylinder from the rods hanging back and forth and there are 4 of them swinging while you're manuvering the crank.
So you really should just wait for mains, install the crnak then install the pistons rods then the head. Patience is everything when it comes to motor assembly.
