Default need info on stock crx exhaust to beat ticket..please help!

this stinks..i got an exhaust noise ticket here in VA the other day for my DC sports exhaust on my 88 crx. i have a catco replacement cat and the 2 inch stainless exhaust. the law states that if the replacement exhaust is at all any louder than the stock exhaust, the replacement is illegal. my question is, how loud is the stock 88 crx si exhaust?? i know they were pretty loud when you redlined the little d16, but does anyone have any documented dB of a stock system? thanks for any help or leads.

That law sounds like bullshit. I would look into it. Semi Trucks are way louder than your stock exhaust, so do they get tickets? Half of the time the stupid cops don't know the laws anyway.

i had a roomate from virginia and he told me about that law. it is bull **** but its actually low in alot of states. i says that an aftermarket exhauist cannot be any louder than what was oe exhaust. as for your question i imagine your dc is louder. why dont u give dc a call and as what the db rating on the exhaust you bought and as if it is comparable to what the stock used to be.

Just slap on a stock exhaust, sign it off, then slap it back on. When I got my exhaust ticket I had about 4 different opinions from 4 different cops on what the law is. They don't have their **** together on that law.

That's not sounding right to me. I would research your state laws and actually see it in the the vehicle code... not by somebody just telling you what the law says.

If the sound thing is correct then just bolt on your stock exhaust and go fight the ticket. Tell them that you have the stock exhaust on the car and the cop must have been picking on you.

Who the F_ck are you? What is your deal pal? I understood, he was talking about the law saying it couldn't be louder then stock. I was making the statement that a semi was way louder, period. How is that dumb?

As a matter of fact most cops don't know the laws I once got out of a tint ticket because I told the cop that my rear glass doesn't matter because my CRX is a two seater, and the rear glass is in the cargo area. A friend of mine told me he got out of a ticket by saying that, and it worked for both of us. I don't know if it is true or not. He also gave me a front plate ticket and I asked if it was legal to put it in the front window? He said he didn't know. So yeah it appears the cops don't know what they are talking about half the time.

In conclusion your an idiot don't argue with my comments.

I have been stopped 3 times for loud exhaust. First time, they took me to court, i won, they said it was fine to keep my exhaust.

Second time, got stopped on the HIGHWAY, told the cop i went to court, and won, he said thats fine, no ticket.

3rd time, cop stops me on the HIGHWAY yet AGAIN. Hes a major jerk off and tells me he dosent give a **** if ive been to court. Ticket for 43$

Some cops dont know ****, they are just there to jerk people around. Most of them dont even know the laws, they are just morons who went through the "academy" sucking ****. Cops are crooked.

thanks for the replies. the actual vehicle code says that if the replacement exhaust permits the escape of noise in excess of that which the stock system permits, then the replacement exhaust is not deemed to be preventing excessive or unusual noise. the cop who pulled me (VA state police) knew the law and wanted to snag me. my point is, however, that the DC exhaust is louder LOOKING than it is SOUNDING. the cop who pulled me in my opinion was just trying to crack down on the "boy racers" who run around town, i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. DC's web site says that the exhaust meets the 95 dB limit, but i don't even think it's that loud. i'll call them up today and see what they say.

oh yeah, groundzero, how did you beat the ticket? i spent 500$ on the DC exhaust because i thought it'd be quiet and lowkey, but i get a ticket anyways, go figure.

its kinda weird, i drove around for 2 months with an open exhaust didnt get stopped once( i was waiting on the muffler thats why it was open, had pipe and thats all) well once i had the dtm style muffler on it got alot quieter and all of a sudden because it looked ricey i got pulled over 3 times in one night, so yea i agree just pulled u over because it looked loud. oh and by the way the rice muffler is off now its a 40 series flowmaster and an inline resonator, super quiet now and alot better looking and good luck on the ticket

ok, here's an update on my research. it appears that the VA state police are going around busting people, backed up by a mis-interpretation of the law! the trooper that pulled me over quoted the law as reading that the replacement exhaust couldn't make any more noise than the car's stock exhaust, or it would be illegal. the true interpretation of the law is that if the replacement exhaust is louder than any oe exhaust (in general) than the exhaust would be illegal. that way, the law can be effective on every car on the road in saying that it shouldn't be louder than a stock system. but we all know that even stock systems on some trucks and sports cars are fairly loud. i think that the federal law should incorporate the 95 dB law that california has passed to protect enthusiasts from these "crackdowns" on imports.
