Default 2004 TL - new specs

i went to a acura dealership today to check out the tsx, and then i picked up a brochure about the 2004 tl. Rumors of the 280hp tl was infact just a rumor. The car has a base hp rating of "only" 270hp and 232lb ft tq. The new TL will not have a type s version. Extra goodies are : drive by wire, 6speed manual, <-- with this u get lsd, Dvd based cd player. The car's front end looks pretty good, but the rear, IMO, is not as good looking as the current TL. I guess honda gets lazy with rear ends, example : 4dr accord. The car is supposedly lil higher then current Tl's 32,990. Trunk space was minimized, due to shortened length of the car.

BTW, the tsx, is a very nice car. All u tsx owners are lucky as hell! I told the sales rep about the rattle problem tsx' owners were having, and he said "that's the first i ever heard of that problem" Dunno, but i'll trust the many tsx owners who ranted about that.

I believe the 2004 TL has 238 ft-lbs, not 232.

I love the way the TL-S looks now, I think it doesnt look as good with the TSX front.

the reason honda didn't realease a tl type s is because they are still using the 3.2V6 which is "almost" at max power with 270hp. The new accord 3.0L v6 is putting 240hp. considering that the base tl was only at 225 hp. Acura had to have "higher" hp ratings then honda, only because its a "luxury" line.

-as always, rumors of type-s models will appear. for the Tl i don't think they'll be near 290 hp as the nsx, but maybe 280. But for the tsx. There is a rumor for 2005 of a type s model. about 220hp. nothing is for sure...

Actually if you have been paying attention to trends and rumors it would that acura is done with the Type S nameplate, phasing it out and just bringing up their current line to par as a normal baseline performance luxury car ala the competitors.

Yes the RSX still wears a Type S, but I think because of the heritage with that car it will stay that way, specially since that car wont be due for an upgrade for a few more years.

If anything, in the next year you will see the TL get AWD, hopefully. This has not been left out as an option for the TSX either.

if the tl jumped into the awd market, it'll be in direct competition with audi's. i'm not saying that's a bad thing, but since honda hasn't made an awd sedan/sub-compact car... consumers may be skeptical in purchasing the car. what i would love to see is honda jump into the 4cyl turbo awd market (evo, wrx) and see how it contends in that.

the rsx is rumored, like always, to have the type r come to the states. with 210-220hp.

I'd rather not see the TL get AWD. It will cost more and add weight. I don't feel that it would provide enough appeal to generate the sales that would justify the cost and trouble Honda would have to go through to develop it. Besides, I would be very pissed off if Honda, after all this swearing up and down about how FWD is efficient and cheap, turned their coats and made an AWD sedan. Of course if they made a car like the DualNote concept with a 3.5L V6 mounted Mid-Rear I'd change my mind.

i second that. I don't see the need for honda to have a awd sedan. Speed? Its pretty fast already (14.5 1/4mile 6spd) Handling? Top in its class.. Plus with2004 dbw, tc, lsd.

What you guys havent read up on is if honda goes AWD that means they are going IMA, the very thing you saw debut on the dualnote concept. so you will have a faster awd tl, therefore added weight wont be an issue and ill be first in line to buy one.

I have heard that but its hard to determine what Honda has and has not said on web boards. It is true from the horse's mouth that Honda has considered applying IMA to other platforms but last I heard (from a Honda rep) is that the next car to get it may actually be the CR-V.

If the TL gets an IMA trim line that would be cool, but I'm not sure how luxury buyers would respond to it. My guess is positively, but you never know.
