Finally got these pics uploaded, my friend and I performed the swap a couple weeks ago. We pulled the 98 CX motor out, worked on the brakes, messed with the suspension, and got all the wiring done on the ITR engine to get it ready to go in. Unfortunately I was not able to be there when the motor went in, but he tells me it started right up w/o any codes. We used a 97 EX automatic engine harness, which took some messing with to get it to work right, but it's all good now. It was my 2nd engine swap, his 1st, and a great learning experience for both of us.
Oh yeah, he has a bad@$$ garage on the side of his house, as you will see, and many many tools, so that made it a little easier. On to the pics:
car on jackstands ready to begin the swap:
another angle, the oil change pit (yes an oil change pit in the garage) can be seen on the right, and my friend is over there talking to another friend on my laptop on AIM to get some engine swap pointers... his whole house is wired up with a DSL network
D16Y7 w/ 220K miles coming out (yes the motor is a 98-spec). We lifted it using the overhead hoist in the garage, which is set up on rails and can slide back and forth and side-to-side anywhere in the garage:
ummm I think ya lost something
my friend standing in the engine bay working on the brake lines, the old motor is sitting under the scaffolding in the middle of the pic:
We pulled the motor out on a Monday night, but the new motor didn't come in until Wednesday, so between those times we worked on brakes and suspension.
Homemade spring compressor, same concept pertty much as the ones you rent from AutoZone, but much easier to use, especially with an impact wrench:
assembled spring compressor:
mmm JDM goodness, we brought the motor home in his brother's pickup. The swap was VERY complete, including GS-R axles, JDM ECU, shift linkage, complete engine harness, and all sensors intact... it was clean, but just a little too clean, that shiny stuff all over the engine smelled nasty
in the garage, w/ new ricer smoke plug wire cover
the engine came to us with a JDM ricer faux carbon fiber plug wire cover
getting the wiring harness hooked up... having the complete J-spec wiring harness helped because we had to use some of the connectors from it. I took full credit for the wiring, except for the reverse light switch.
genuine J-spec B18C
LSD equipped
that's all I have, I had to leave before they could get the motor in the car. We cracked open the valve cover before putting it in, and it looks very very clean inside. The engine can't have more than 30K miles on it.
Props to Katman for his engine swap wiring how-to diagrams, and also to jdmdxturd for his help w/ pointers for getting it wired up.
I can't wait to drive the beast, it's faster than my kaa now

It's a JDM ITR engine man, he wanted the top dawg
It'll be at least a few more weeks before I'll be able to see it again and drive it.

yes, and now j00 need to come down here so I can try it out.
I also want to try the new suspension and see how it feels on these POS roads compared to my POS suspension.

Where did you buy that from? I may be ordering a jdm itr motor and probably will only need a long block because I can re-use my gsr tranny and axles.

that jdm ricer faux carbon fiber wire cover is standard on all OEM 98 and up spec ITR engines from japan... that fake carbon cover is a OEM honda part.

Why do people feel they need to take off the bumper when they are doing motorswaps? I've never had to do that on any of the swaps I've worked on (correction, 1.. which is a good thing.. n/m
)
But yeah, that motor looks good. HMO and JHP get their motors from a really good supplier. We went to the actual supplier to get my motor. It was like JDM heaven. Every motor you can think of. Every body part you can think of. Bride seats used as trash cans... it was great.
Glad to see it came out well though

i took it just to keep everything clean. besides its soo easy to get off an on.
how i paid for it, i bused my *** working as an industrial mechanic and welder for a few months. saved enough to swap and redo the suspension.
hmotors give you the option of getting GSR axels for your 98+ ITR swap. the itr axels are too big for the US spec hubs
