1997 Accord needs new timing belt--where to get tool?
We want to replace the timing belt on our 1997 Accord EX (automatic Trans) but need to get a certain tool to hold the crankshaft pulley still while removing the nut. Does anyone know where we can get one---or even what is the proper name for it?
Thanks.
Thanks.
The tool you need is the Harmonic Damper Pulley Puller from Schley. I bought one from ToolParadise.com for $48 inc. shipping. You will also need a 1/2" breaker bar, 3/4" breaker bar and maybe a cheater pipe for added leverage.
Attach the Schley tool to the 1/2" breaker bar and jam stop breaker bar against the ground or car frame to resist turning. Then muscle up and break the bolt w/ the 3/4" breaker bar and cheater pipe as needed.
As Stripped Honda says you can get a shop to break the bolt w/ an air impact. However, a 1/2" air impact may not do the job. My cheap 1/2" air impact didn't work for me. It may take a 3/4" air impact to break the bolt. I took mine to Honda on one occasion for them to break loose. They use the procedure I described above.
good luck
