I'm in NY state, there's a law saying that i'ts illegal to sell or buy(in person or by shipping) a used airbag within NY. But I can sell or buy airbags outside the state? Is that true? but why is that? If I need an airbag, why can't I buy it off someone who has one? Does this apply to other states too? Can someone verify this?

 

Why do you need and airbag? I am personally very uncomfortable driving a vehicle with a high explosive pointed directly at my face...

As far as I know, it is illegal to modify or tamper with any saftey device on you car. Passive restraint (like airbags) and seat belts are examples. If you are buying one, chances are you are tampering or altering the saftey device. I'd imagine that only qualified people are allowed to legally install airbags.
