Default Flywheel Issue

ok, im looking at flywheels for a B16a sir II. Can I go too light? I know this motor really isn't that strong, so will a really light weight flywheel kill my inertia and make it struggle more then it will benefit from it? Trying to decide from the following. I have an act stage 2 clutch kit (55% over).

ACT
StreetLite 12.5 lbs
ProLite 8.8 lbs

Fidanza
7.5lbs

with your setup, imo, the streetlite 12.5 lbs fly is good.

Well, preference between aluminum and chromoly might play a part in the decision, but that's a totally separate debate. My suggestion is to go with Fidanza/CM. It's available for a very reasonable price, and is a great piece. It's lighter and only a few dollars more than the ProLite, and I honestly think you would be disappointed with the StreetLite.

Yes, there are those that will bring up the "overall mass vs. mass distribution" debate, and it is a valid one. There is the possibility that ACT offers more "favorable" distribution of mass, in which case it would perform similarly or "better" than the Fidanza/CM. However, to date, I haven't seen any information regarding the mass distribution of particular flywheels (e.g. concentrated towards the center, etc.). Until such information is available, overall mass is one of the only objective methods of comparing flywheels.

It's not about overall weight, it's also about where the weight is taken from. The TODA is a really well balenced piece and very lightweight probably one of the best I have seen in person. The unorthodox racing one same thing, but kinda pricey. Out of those two the Fidanza or ProLite woudl be a good choice. I woudl spend the money on the street lite.

Ask a question like this and you'll get 100 different answers

Just know the facts. Lighter FW = Better acceleration and that is IT. Doesn't increase HP

You will have to rev the engine higher at engagement and the rpms will fall faster. the lighter you go the more pronounced these characteristics will be.

I personally have gone with a 10.5 pound Cromoloy FW
I think 12.5 FW would be th more rounded FW of the three to choose from. Personally think the 7.5 is too light for my driving stlye. I drive in Traffic EVERYDAY and even with the 10.5 I do miss the feel of the heavier FW in that Stop and go traffic.
8.8 Pounds is kind of a Compromise between the other two you have there but I think if you are running a 18 pound FW or more then you can't go wrong with even the 12.5 pounder

the centeralized mass issue are you talking about it being closer to the axis of spinning and having less rotational inertia if so i agree with that on the prolite looking at it but i dont have a clue on what im talking about

Nonething but fidanza over here, takes a while to get used to in traffic, but its well worth the money.

"You will have to rev the engine higher at engagement and the rpms will fall faster. the lighter you go the more pronounced these characteristics will be"

who said that is a bad thing (i might sound stupid but say it takes a 500 rpm higher movement to not stall the car on the street well think about when you race on street tires if you have to launch higher that 500 rpm may put u a hell of a lot closer or into vtec on the launch without having so much mass as to fry you tires therefore you will actaully get better 60fts and be faster down the track based on the launch and moving less rotating mass down the track
