Foglight help?? relay????
hi, i was just wondering if i need to have a foglight relay installed on my car because for some odd reason every switch i put in my car it seems to burn out after like 1 month of useage. my plugs are black but i can still put a new plug in my car but it keeps burning out. would someone tell me if this is caused due to not having a relay installed or if i'm dong something wrong. thanx

ok the brand name of the foglights i'm not quite sure yet of but the unit did come with a relay but i decided not to use it. the bulbs are 55watt which came with the fogs. not what i have done is that i have everything connected to the switch. i have the power wire, the ground wire, and the positive fog wire connected to the switch itself with no relay being used. i used my cigarette lighter as the 12volt constant but when i shut my car off the 12 volt is off since my radar detector is on it as well. the ground i got from right under the e-brake on the chasis. the switch has 3 connections 1 for the ground, 2 for the power 12v, 3 for the fog lights/ parking light i believe, but i have the foglights connected to that one. i'm using 16 gauge wire and the switch seems to melt a bit after long periods of operation. i usually lasts for about a month or so. the tips of the wires are black though. basically i didn't want to use the relay because i wanted to be able to run the foglights without having to use my parking light switch. i want to be able to use it manually. i basically run them all the time unless my car is on accessory position i shut them off because i don't want to drain the battery now. thanx
