I have a check Egine Problem and I have checked all the basics
I have checked my oil, transmision, water and gas cap and all seem to be fine. I can't uderstand why my check egine light came on. I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX and the check engine light came on when I was driving, all the gauges inside read normal and last time I had a problem like this it was because I lost my gas cap but thats intacted any Ideas of what else I might check thanks

check engine lights are usually from bad oxygen sensors. i had mine replaced today actually. on the 96-97 accords there was a recall on the exhaust, the dealer i went to did the job for free. it takes about 5 minutes for them to see why the check light is on, take it in and just ask them to see what code you've thrown. then if it's a bad O2 sensor then ask if they'll cover it under the recall.
Im not sure how to do it on a 5th gen, but you can get the check engine light to tell you exactly what the code is. try to search around and look for instructions. once you get the code, you can look it up and it will tell you exactly what the problem is. Spend a little time checking it out yourself and save a lot of money by not taking it to the dealer. heres a link on how to check it on a 6th gen, maybe it will help you out a little bit.
