Lowering springs on stock shocks?
How well witll the stock shocks hold up if I were to lower my ep3 1.75"? Will they last or are they like some other cars and will start to leak soon after lowering and need replacement?
I was looking at k-series.com and found this install.

they just swapped the springs.

you will have problems running out of shock travel if the spring rates arent stiff enough to keep the shock off its bumpstops. Then of course, if the spring rates are too stiff, then the shocks wont be able to damp them properly. Sort of a catch-22.
A coil-over setup is going to be your best bet.

....eibach pro-kit and forget about it. Rides almost like stock and the drop looks alot better, pictures don't do them justice, than people give credit
...not 1.75 but the 1.1 gets the job done

I've got the h&r sport springs w/ stock shocks. no bounce. the stock shocks have 50,000 miles on them, several autocrosses, and the last 6000 miles have been on the new h&r springs with no issues thus far.
I have progress lowering springs, I think they are 1.75 all around and it puts the fenders just above the wheels. Looks bad ***, and it handles 5 times better than it did stock and I have had it 9000 miles with no issues. Sometimes over a big bump you can hear a squeek, but thats about it. thanks
Now that i think about it, adjustable coilovers are better for me so i can raise the car in the winter. Its my daily driver.
Now, I'm a total suspension newb. My old car has springs and struts. Simple enough...i understood how it worked. Whats the difference between a shock and strut? Ive never had my car on a lift to look and see what the difference is.
And if i get coilovers i'm guessing they just replace the springs as well. So I'll still be running into the same problem unless i either get new shocks or only lower the car a little?
