Just wondering if any of you guys have seen any 5th gen headlights with "black" housings. I'm though that the JDM 4th gens only had this option. I'm pretty sure that this would be a DIY mod too. I went searching through Honda of Japan's old Prelude site and it looks like the 5th gens there have the same chrome-like housing as we do.

I think that this actually looks pretty good if it's done properly. Though would this interfere with the refraction of light coming from the headlights? If anybody has any pics with these headlights please post them. I tried searching on the site and I didn't come up with anything.

mine. doesnt interefere with anything. the part you paint black is not a refractor.

 

That looks pretty good! How did you go about painting it and how much?

 

take out headlights
put whole assembly in oven for like 2 minutes around 400 degrees
pry everything apart
take out trim ring, scuff up, spray paint black
use new epoxy in conjunction with old sealant to reseal headlights, put back in oven to heat up sealant

it does take a long time though... take out the headlights is a b!tch, and u gotta wait for the paint to dry

 

The later Preludes already came with slight dark painting around the edges of the housing (a lot like the picture above).

Yeah those headlights looks pretty good. I think I may just do that to my Prelude. No more bling-blang in the headlights!

 

the 00-01 ludes didn't come with darker headlight housings.

 

the 99+ ludes came w/a gunmetalish color, while the 97-98 came w/chrome.

 

my friend had a 2000 prelude and it had the chrome/gunmetal around the headlights. we painted it black and it turned out nice, but it doesn't really stand out on a black car.

 

So is painting you headlight housing black "JDM" style cus if it is then I wanna do it.
