how many miles on the oem clutch?
Driving to work this morning I smelled the clutch pretty heavily for about 20-30 seconds, but didn't burn it before or ride it or anything like that. Is it possible that it may be already dying on me?
I've got 40k on the car and do about 10 autox events a year, no drag racing or anything like that.
How many miles should I expect to get from the oem clutch on the ITR?

was recirculation button pressed in at the time?, the one next to a/c... it could have been from outside the car..
if you don't have any signs such as clutch slipping, sticky pedal.. you should be fine.. i took mine out at 53K, it was still in good condition, but my spings were weak (sticky pedal) and it would grip all the time past 8500rpm.

OEM clutches last me around 30-50k, before the clutch disc breaks a spring. The friction portion usually still has much life left. My engines are built to go to 9k+, and the OEM clutch does not like the high rpm so much. For the average driver, I would suggest replacement at about 90k, unless the disc lets go sooner.

My stock clutch went around 30K when the disk broke. There was a lot of friction material left. After one dealership didn't think it should be covered under warranty (Serramonte
) it was replaced under warranty by another dealership (Mike Harvey
). Acura wasn't much help either, because all they suggested was going to another dealership for a "second opinion" and no one would speak directly with me at the time. So, I had to pay to tow the car, but ended up getting a replacement clutch.
Oh, and as for the sticky pedal syndrome, you guys might try having the end of the actuator on the slave cylinder lubed first before deciding to just replace the clutch. I've had this a couple of times, where the pedal seems to get "sticky" or drag. It also squeeked sometimes.

My stock clutch went at 49,750 and the dealership wouldn't cover it.
The clutch actually broke

The reason they didn't replace it is because in their opinion it was abused.
Note the blue color that the clutch was burned.
I also took the clutch to another mechanic and just showed him the clutch and asked how a clutch might get killed like this. He said that if the clutch was dumped that's the only other way this would happen.
So I shelled out $1k for a clutch job.
I would've bought a better aftermarket clutch, but that would probably throw me out of STX in autocross.
Now after 25k miles, the clutch pedal is clicking again and its squeeking every time I press on it. What grease do I use and where?

Honda Urea grease on the clutch fork pivot ball will work wonders for a noisy clutch. Kind of tough to do without pulling the transmission though. It can be done, if you pull the slave cylinder and the rubber boot on the side of the transmission.
I had 46k on my OEM clutch when it began to slip, but of course mainly b/c i was convinced to go to the 1/4 by freinds and see what number i would put down. 7k dumps and slipps do not help at all.......
ACT Xt-SS now and a Fidanza Flywheel and not a problem or complaint to the day, been in the car for 15k now. 4th gear chirps out a apex always seem to impress!

i got like 28k miles on mine then something happend and the dealer put another one on under warrenty and its 7k and still running
Replaced mine at 53k. I had over 200 drag passes launching around 7,000rpms riding the clutch for almost all of them and several auto-x events along with some aggressive country road driving. It was still grabbing good, but I felt the time was getting near. I was starting to have the sticky pedal though now that you guys mention it.
56,000 miles and many track events.... (a few 1/4 mile passes).
the release bearing was replaced at ~42,000 miles (some clutch disc spring wear was visible)
the pedal is getting a little bit harder to push now and I plan to pull the tranny in a month or 2 to inspect the release bearing (lube the input shaft) and inspect the pressure plate and clutch disc.
