i don't think theres any ways to prevent them from chipping. u could maybe using sandpaper on it to scuff up the surface a bit. mines starting to chip and peel in the holes where the lug nuts go.

powder coat them, unless you are going to change colors of them every couple months...

one thin coat of primer will surfice. the more you put the softer itll be and easier to chip. i always do one coat primer one coat paint, and let them dry for a day or 2 and i have 0 rock chips

To paint my LS rims, I used this spray can thats purpose is for Rim painting. Also used a normal can of Primer and a clear coat made for rims. Did a couple coats of each, but make sure the primer is rock guard aswell. I'll post up some pics in a bit... Metallic Steel with polish lip from the old grey with scratches haha.

My wheels are not primered, just scuffed up, then paint and lots of clearcoat. No rock chips and it's been several months. I painted them after getting my tires mounted, though, so no problems with chipping around the edges either.

And to those who don't like it, who cares, it's personal preference, and in my case, MOST people cannot tell if they are powdercoated (~$200) or painted (cost me ~$10). Many people have asked me if my wheels are powdercoated.

here's mine, did them a couple days ago..

^ those arent bumps, its metallic flakes.. just a bad pic.

I did them myself...

1 can primer
1 can paint (metallic wheel paint)
1 can clear coat

$27's later... the end product, (pics above).

I would have saved the $27 dollars for paint and went to Jack In the Box and bought 54 tacos instead. Way more satisfying and not as ugly.

The pictures are terrible, and in actuality its probably like 12 US. Considering that much Canadian is like half of the US$.

I like them, and the pictures suck but they look good to me so thats all that matters..

When you paint the wheels you have to sand them that way it will give the paint will have something to hold on to. If you dont the wheel will be to smooth and the paint will just peel and chip off. Also use the duplicolor wheel painting clear coat, its alot thicker and stronger than car paint clear coat it holds alot better
