Default Realistic times with LS'VTEC in gutted CRX?

TO make a long story short this supposedly LS/VTEC motor in a CRX raced this 89? Trans Am "pace car edition" and beat him by quite a distant. The trans am was not stock either. The crx had no visible NOS anywhere (checked by a NOS installer) no SC and NO turbo. I just wanted to know what makes the LS/VTEC a nice setup?

The LSVTEC can make anywhere from 140whp to 240whp+. So in that car it could be anywhere from a 14.5car to an 11.5 and quicker car. Who knows. Go ask him and find out. By the way 89 Trans Am's are not fast whatsoever. He'd have to have a decent bit done.

The driver wouldn't say what he had done. Ithe Trans Am was extremely fast. it is owned by a man in his 50's who has beat a ton of cars. I may have the year wrong. It was the year they made it with the grand national; engine in it . The CRX was VERY impressive.

FYI: The 89 Trans Am "Indy Pace car" was very fast. It came with the 3.8L V6 Turbo/intercooled motor from the Grand National. The car is a very low 13 sec car in stock form and a high 12 sec car on slicks. just like Grand Nationals it is an easy turbo car to modify.

Sorry I missed the pace car part. 88-92 Camaro's/Trans Am's are not fast at all, but it still applies depends on what he had done to it. Just like you said they are low 13's stock w/ the 272 turbo. Well a nicely built LS VTEC in a gutted CRX can be quicker then that. Either way what was the point of this post again?

well wat makes a ls vtec great is that you get the tq from the ls and the high reving hp from the vtec head. so the skys the limit as long as youre pockets can fly...

you mean a well tuned, slick strapped, gutted crx can run that time, but keep in mind that the turbo t-a can run 12's slicked up with few mods and full weight. strip the t-a like the crx and see what happens.

I don't want to get into a pissing match about I vs D. I love Grand Nationals and the 272 Turbo V6. Both cars are VERY capable of being fast. The Pace Car Firebird or GN obviously has the advantage of being faster in teh long run and being faster for cheaper. All I was getting at was the poster seemed as though it was near impossible for an all motor Honda to beat one of these. Just saying it's not impossible that's all.

i feel ya. i know that it is very possible, its just that the t.a will do everything that the gutted CRX can do with much less effort. i must say that i'm Honda 4 life though, and could give a **** about turbo t.a's and g.n's. holla back

Slicks are optional hehehe

A serious LSVTEC (ie Mackspeeds one) in a gutted CRX would run 11's on street tyres

Hey Nighthawk,

I know which pace car you are talking about. Its a white car from upstate ny. The car runs hard, but dont forget, technology gets better and better. That crx that raced him was of a ls/vtec combination but realisticallly was not a stock 1.8 bore. PM me privately of what color the rex was, I think I know the owner of the car and the details on the car. I won't disclose it all here because the kid street races the car.

i raced one of the indy pace car edition's at the track and beat him by almost a full second. and i have pulled a best of 14.39

i talked to the guy who was in his late 30's or so. he said he was running 20lbs of boost which seems like a lot but i dont know **** about that car.

he gave me a whole **** load of excuses why his car should be running a lot better times but he never got into the 14's all night.

needless to say, i was not impressed at all with that car.

Well, I know GN's can be fast...
I can only assume a firebird with a 3800 turbo could also be fast (potentially)
