Default Out of work racers thread...

Ok, in a **** poor attempt to make this on topic. Who else is out of work at the moment, what do you do and where do you live?

Me:
Location: North of Atl, GA in Buford.
Occupation: I have worked as an ASP, VB and SQL programmer for 5 years. However, I have a BA and MA in Mass Comm./Journalism and would be happy to work in some capacity that would utilize that degree. Anything related to cars and racing is great as well.

Mods, sorry for the thread. Feel free to lock. But until you have been out of work for a year (anniversary this week) you can't understand the desperation. :End violin playing: Seriously, who else is in the same boat? I have seem some posts from a few guys. Is there anyone that can help us out? Thanks!

Have you tried contacting race tracks and teams? I have been there and the feeling is not real good-but the work is out there. Be positive Chris.

My unemployment is self inflicted. I also have that Sugar Mama thing going on.
So I'm still OK and still racing... For now.

Chris - Home Depot. At least its income.
Temping isnt so bad either. Sometimes you get to meet cute chicks who are bored with their husbands (not like I know first hand or anything <cough&gt.

Saw this in the General Forum Chris. Your skills may be above the position, but it is in the field.

Don't know if this "counts," but I've been out of college since May 2002, and I'm still "looking." The market started recessing when I was a junior and i was really scared at the time. I just didnt know it was gonna be THIS bad.

I am temporarily performing a service not unlike that posed in the thread linked above.

in almost the same position. got laid off last year from my fiber optic engineering job when telecom market crashed and have been on unemployment for the last year, not including 4 months of being out of the country. really trying to find a job now and not really happening yet.

i looked into jim russell mechanics training program, but i cant see myself living off zero income, slaving away every day for a whole year to justify a job in the race industry, especially when i realized i dont want to be a grunt mechanic even for a good race team for a career. id rather be in the engineering side, so my goal is to get into optical and/or high frequency sensors which has applications in race as well as commercial and research, and be involved in motorsports that way, keeping career and hobby separate. which means i may need to go back to school...

basically, i cannot for the life of me ever reason spending money on racing if idont have a job that pays more than part time even. even at $99/race day which i just turned down.

but i suggest you do what i do. find out ways to instruct for free at HPDE schools, help out at the track on race weekends for the fun, close to racing as you can get and nice perks. read my recent post on how much fun i had with spending just gas money.
