Finally got a chance to dyno my R
Hi everyone,
Haven't browsed HT for the longest time as I've been busy with other engagements. Anyways, I finally did it. I dyno'd the R at DNR in Hayward, California. Actually, I wasn't there for my first dyno because I had to work. Fortunately, I was able to convince my good friend and cousin to bring it there for the dyno and suffer in the heat while I was stucked at work. To get to the point, I was happy with the results. My R is completely stock. The only modification I have is HIDs; well, that plus castrol syntec motor oil.
Here's the chart:

Comments are definitely welcome.

Sup matt, thanks for the comment. They didn't do any tuning. That's just the baseline numbers. I notice you live in hayward. Have you ever dyno'd your car at DNR? if so, do you mind posting up your charts?

Thanks for the kind words guys.
I couldn't be happier with the results. The car is at 32200miles and still running very strong. My only concern with the car is the rate at which it burns the motor oil. Then again, maybe it's my leadfoot.

I've considered taking this route many times. I still remember the awesome results posted by a fellow HT member who removed the PS and AC belts. Plus, I've read that it greatly improves the feel of the road. But I don't want to run into any trouble with the warranty.
I was considering the route of adjusting(advance) the timing. Are there any suggestions (with considerations of my planned mods listed below) whether I should or shouldn't do this?
Future Mods:
4-1 JDM header (cheap and will provide me with additional midrange)
V-AFC (not cheap but will help me smooth out the curve plus tune the R with header)
thanks again.
EDIT: changed "intake" with "header"

Advancing the timing to 18 degrees is a cheap way to pickup some low and mid rpm power - made my R feel more peppy. Just make sure you ALWAYS put good gas in, and you won't have any problems. I've been daily driving mine for 40,000+ miles at 18 degrees with no issues at all. If your'e not sure how to do this, check :

Oh, and if your'e thinking about ditching Power Steering, here's my results:

What you can't see is the 10 lb-ft that I picked up at 3000 rpm - really helps with daily driving. All that gain, plus better road feel. Parking is a bitch, but that just makes you stronger
I have read that dropping A/C will only give you like 1 hp - remember that the compressor is on a clutch, so it's not a "constant" drag like power steering is.

i think something may be wrong with your motor. last time i checked, i thought .2 liters gives more than one horse power. heres my stock ctr dyno with power steering
Philly_NBP_R: that's an amazing gain you've tapped from the removal. Did you simply remove the PS belt or was the entire unit disassembled? As for adjustments made to the timing, I think I'll give it a shot and see how I like it. Thanks a million for the info. I am happy to see that HT is still the shizzutz! hehe.

My bad guys, didn't realize the link still wasn't working until now. I used my friend's website to host the file and it's working now. That should eliminate the additional clicks needed to view the chart.

ummm yeah, my baseline was a little low, but it was a warm day, and you can't compare dyno runs unless they were done under identical conditions on the same dyno... I'd like to see the 1.6 vs 1.8 torque curves compared
and yes - the only difference between runs was the removal of the p/s belt (I revved a little higher during second run as well, but all other conditions were identical).
Nick (who is happy with his 166 whp for now...)

haven't dyno'd my car yet, too busy at work. basicaly stock gsr with aem cai. trying to upgrade suspension now. do you mind telling how much you paid for the dyno?

i was wanting to see a close to stock dyno as i have a b18c (jdm) shortblock with ctr pistons, usdm stock '98 head and cams, and sadly a b16a intake mani, otherwise stock with CHEAP exhaust on obd0 pr3 w/ 177.6whp @ 7350 & tq 128.4 ft. lbs
nobody could really tell me anything good about it, and def want more power, but we gotta start somewhere
