Default JDM ECU vs. ITR ECU...

What's the big difference. I dyno'd both on my J-spec engine with only JDM R header, AEM CAI and Comptech exhaust (all untuned) and got very little difference in power between the two. Anyone else find this? I run on 93 octane if that makes any difference.

The Blue is the USDM ECU and the Red is the JDM ECU. The gains with the JDM ECU was minimal... better, but minimal.

I just want to know what the hype is with the JDM ECU?

how many runs did you make back to back.. either way.. you'll have better luck with custom maps

Is it me or does the red line look smoother?

I only was able to do 2 runs with each ECU. I'm sure with some tuning I could get more power. But I always see JDM ECU's go for ~$250 and USDM's go for ~$150 and wanted to know if there was any difference. Granted my methods couldhave been better but the pocket book calls for low-cash dyno runs right now! hehe!

But, I am researching Toda Spec A's right now for streetability and mid range power for the road racing without upgrading the valvetrain or redline. So I may keep everything as is as I save the $$ for new cams.

They are pretty much the same. The only major difference is the speed governor on the jdm ecu. I think top speed with that ecu is 120 or so AFAIK

looks like you need to drop that vtec xover like crazy. Those are the same results that I've seen. Someone else did the same test and got the same results, hardly anything.

JDM don't have the 2000-01 cams like we do. ECU might be tuned for the 97-98 style cams.

Gas in japan is 100 RON. Not Octane. 100 RON is equal to about 94-95 octane. Not much difference.

Not much difference but still could be the deciding factor. Could be just that Much more where the ECU can lean out the mixture with the higher grade fuel.

Also depending on the Year of the ECU you're also talking about OBD1 like vs OBD2 like. the 98 Spes ECU run the same emmisions standard as the the 94-97 cars. Perhaps proper tuning is in order. It is very unlikely to achieve any major differences when you just swap the computers if the engine is not setup to take advantage of the lesser restrictions

id run the JDM ECU for awhile and see what ur car feels like after a few weeks.
u can also try adding toluene to ur gas to increase ur octane rating.
1 gal to 6 gal of 93 pump.

and the fact that the JDM ecu only uses 1 02 - good for a test pipe.
